Phonon or Eltnum to main

I'm pretty new to "anime fighters" and am really enjoying this game so far. I need helping picking between Phonon and Eltnum to main. I like Phonon's look and her weapon and move kit, but from what ive heard shes a low effort top tier and I don't want to get hate because I'm playing an "easy character" that is like the bayonetta of this game. Eltnum is the only other character I've been able to beat the arcade with and I like her movestyle aswell. Her pistol mechanic is also super cool. Also I've been playing a little Linne and Chaos but idk if I'd want to main either of them.

If you're new, you will learn more by maining Eltnum. She has the tools necessary for any matchup, and she isn't too easy or hard to play.

In my opinion if you like the character play them
People would get salty even if you were using the worse character in the game so I wouldn't worry about it too much

Play whoever you want, I wouldn't let random people stray you in one specific way. If you like Phonon go for it. I can't imagine the FGC ridiculing anyone over a character pick, unlike the bayonetta situation.

Phonon isn't nearly as dominating as Bayo is in Smash nor is she really a low effort, so just play your favorite, or your waifu

Is Phonon so cheap? I surely won't play online, so I have no concerns about what other people say, but my honor code does not allow me to use OP characters, not even against the CPU.

I only played the game for 30 minutes and only tried 2 characters (Nanase and Phonon) at the moment and I liked Phonon...

Criticism on "honor" aside, Phonon is not cheap at all. She's just a character that gives a lot of beginners trouble imo.

As for the OPs question - general FGC and especially anime FGC is not as discerning as Smash when it comes to character picks, as people have said.

If you are afraid of hatred from some general salty randoms you might meet and that is a concern for you, stay awayy from all of the following: Vatista, Hilda, Merkava, Phonon, Gordeau, Mika, Waldstein (and to a lesser extent Carmine as well). These characters aren't necessarily top tier, but player perceptions about their gameplay when on the receiving end doesn't always correlate with actual tier position.

I'd suggest ignoring people like that though, there are far less of those than people that aren't bothered by most of that list. If that's hard for you, maybe join an UNIST discord and make some friends there that aren't gonna whine about this sort of thing.

As others have said, Eltnum and Phonon are both fine, depending on what you want to learn/play. Eltnum's a good all-rounder, Phonon is more specialized, but doesn't really have to worry about everything an all-rounder has to worry about, which can be good too.
