[TUTORIAL] How to play Tour of Duty campaign in multiplayer coop
I've never seen this mentioned anywhere on the Internet, but you can actually play the single-player campaign mode, Tour of Duty, in multiplayer coop. You need a few console commands for that, but it works surprisingly nice!

One rather obvious requirement is that one player must be able to host a regular multiplayer game that another player or players can join. Make sure regular multiplayer like this works for you before you start wondering why the instructions below do not work. And if it doesn't, there's plenty of tutorials on how to make it work.

Once you are sure you can play on self-hosted multiplayer together, these are the steps you need to take.

The host:
1. Start or load the Tour of Duty campaign as usual.
2. Select the map and the team. Some of the bots on the team will be replaced by the other players when the game starts.
3. Start the game as usual.
4. When the game loads, open the console by pressing ~.
5. Enter the command: "sv_lan 1" to open the game to LAN.
6. Enter the command: "sv_password" to get your game's password and give it to other players. Alternatively, you can enter a command "sv_password <your_password>" to set the password to something else.
7. Enter the command: "kick <bot_name>" where <bot_name> is the name of one of your bot teammates - this will remove a bot of your choice from the team and make some space for a player to join, otherwise the game would be reported as full.
8. Repeat step 6 until you have enough room for all the other players to join.
9. Do not close the console until the other players join! The game is paused as long as the console is open, but when the game is resumed, new bots will immediately be added to fill the empty slots, making your players unable to join.

Other players:
1. Press ~ in the main menu to access the console.
2. Enter the command: "connect <ip_of_the_host>; password <password_received_from_host>".
3. Congratulations, you're in!

A few notes regarding Tour of Duty in coop:
1. Only the host can see the objectives under Tab, but other players can complete them, too.
2. The game pauses for everyone when the host presses Escape.
3. An objective with "survive the round" in it will fail for a given round if any human player dies.
4. After the mission is completed (or failed), the host goes back to the tour of duty mission selection screen as usual, while all the other players are kicked out from the server. The instructions above must be repeated every time a mission is started.
5. Fan-made mission packs can also be played in coop this way, not just the official campaign.

This is it. I've only tested it on LAN, but I think it should work via direct connect outside of LAN, too (provided all the ports are open, etc). No guarantees, though.

Enjoy!

Nice one, although you should've created a guide so your thread doesn't get flooded on forums.

Really smart, nice. I agree with Alerion, post this as a guide too so it doesn't get burried. Or maybe ask a mod to sticky this post.

Question, do you really need a password if you are doing a lan on the same network as a familiar person?

This actually works. i tried this with my friend who lives very afar. i could say thanks to hamachi because i guess that program did the portforwarding stuff automatically so me and my friend could play.

After all friends join you can use pauseable 0 command to disable pause.
