There is a problem with the steam version of the game on my laptop.
What should I do?
Please help me
I'll post here if there is any fix for that.
And I am using the same windows i.e Windows 10 home
Hello and I apologize for the delay.
Please try starting the game using the following launch options. These launch options should be used individually without any other launch options present:
-safe
-novid
-autoconfig
The -safe launch option will launch the game at its lowest settings, allowing you to modify your video options to find acceptable settings for your machine. The -novid launch option will start the game without the introduction video, and -autoconfig will start the game using the highest settings your machine can reliably run the game at.
Please note, these launch options apply to Valve games only.
If a launch option has helped you reliably start the game, we recommend working backwards to find acceptable settings for your machine.
To do this, start the game using the launch option that previously helped. Once you're in the game you're free to make changes to your video settings to find acceptable settings for your machine. After you've found these settings, minimize the game and remove the launch option which helped the game start; this will retain the changes you've just made next time you start the game.

This might help you fix the whole error as it depends on system to system.
I recommend trying the following launch option:
• Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
• Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
• Enter the command: -windowed -w 800 -h 600
• Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
This should bring you back to a resolution that you can then adjust your settings.
Please let me know if I can help clarify anything else.
Carry the fire,
Wei N.
I have included replies from steam support as comments.
Try these methods and you might solve your error as well.
I run this game on Intel HD Graphics.
There is no picture of nvidia being in existence for me
THIS WILL FIX THE ISSUE FOR ALL HALF LIFE GAMES (INCLUDES CS 1.6, CSCZ, CSCZ DC)
If u have used windowed mode in the past - remove any launch options you used to make the game launch in windowed mode.
Then, after you done the below steps, and launched game, go Options > Video and untick Windowed mode.
Then click OK then the game will restart.

Hey there! I had the exact same issue as you, and know the exact fix. I tested and it works 100%.
THE FIX:
Use Compatibility Mode "Windows 7" for Half Life's exe file.
Full instructions:
1. Open Steam
2. Right click on "Half-Life" in your Library
3. Click "Properties"
4. Click the "Local Files" tab
5. Click "Browse Local Files"
6. Find and right click on the "hl.exe" file or the "hl" application. It could look like this[i.imgur.com] OR this[i.imgur.com]
7. Click "Properties"
8. Tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
9. Select "Windows 7" in the dropdown
10. Click "OK"
11. Close the window
12. Launch Half-Life

NOTE: This fix will work for all Half Life 1 / GoldSrc games and mods you have installed! As long as they are through steam - if using nonsteam setups perform the same steps on the hl.exe file inside the games folder.

Info:
This issue only happens on some laptops with Intel HD Graphics, and only on some models of Intel HD Graphics cards. I know this as it happened on one of my iGPU laptops but not the other!
This issue started after 2013 when valve made major updates to the GoldSrc / Half Life 1 engine and removed the D3D renderer, and made other modifications. I know this as this issue does not happen on my 2009 copy of CS 1.6.
Not really, did you try the fix i posted? did it have side effects? it didnt for me
You can check that in the video tab in your options when you open the game.
