There's lots of information for pet hatching on the Wizard101 Central Wiki. It's where I go for details on most items in the game.
You can only get your own pet with talents from the hybrid if you hatch with a hybrid (I don't know of any exceptions.
The Acid Rain Core pet according to the wiki is a hybrid obtained from hatcing two pets obtained from Level 118 school pet quests (Death pet "Ghulture" and Storm pet "Rain Core").
Also you can't obtain school pet quests from hatching if you are not a person of that school. So for example if you are a Fire wizard and if you take any pet and hatch with someone with the Ghulture pet you won't get the Ghulture pet.
What you could do is create another Death and/or Storm wizard if you don't already have them, hatch with people with the Ghulture and/or Rain Core pets until you get one of those pets and hatch with another person with the other one to get your Acid Rain Core.
It's going to take a lot of time because of reasons above and like you said pets with lower rarity are more likely to be reproduced.
Anyway that's all the information I was able to gather and someone with more experience can correct me if I'm wrong.
Woop guess part of my original statement is wrong then. If it was up to me I would just keep hatcing with the Acid Rain Core, the chances are going to be low anyway.
This might feel like you can't but in honesty. Its based almost purely on Luck. When it comes to its stats(Strength, Intellect, etc) this can go either 3 ways. It takes off from your pets, the other pets, or the average of the pets.
I'm not to sure how Pedigree is chosen all that well. But all I can say is. Just keep trying and trying. It's based on luck. It took me 2 tries to get a Windswept Dryad. and 16 tries to get a Icedactyl.
When it comes to the stats the pet gives (Ex: Proof, Pain-Dealer, MayCast Fairy, etc) I would recommend hatching with the same pet at least 4 times. In more detail. First hatch with the pet you want and stats you like. Then train that pet to an Adult. Then Hatch that pet you just trained with The same pet (Acid Raincore) and rinse and repeat. Do this about 4-5 times, and then try to level this pet to Mega, as the stats should land perfectly with what you want. However. this is not 100%. so this may still fail. And if so, then hatch again.
Pet training is a timely, costly, and frustrating process, but once finished, you will feel great about yourself and this will help you dramatically.
With hatching, definitely check w101central too, but it can be a quite frustrating experience. My best advice is to lower your expectations and expect to settle.
