Ice by itself is a very good class, lot's of HP and specializing in defense. They have a 0-pip spell where you can summon a shield that will absorb half the damage of any form of spell. They also have decent combo wards (Trying to get back into this with a new account so I haven't looked at ice for a long time, i think it's a fire and lightning combo ward spell they have.) Odds are as long as you use your training points for maybe a couple life spells then you will be able to keep yourself alive to the point where the enemy will probably suffer from lack of sleep...
If you are with a team though, odds are they will not find you useful for doing damage, however, you will be pretty useful with your wards, Especially the ignoring 50% damage one and the exclusive Freeze spell that only ice wizards can get where you stun an enemy for a turn. (HORRIBLE ACCURACY THOUGH IN MY OPINION AS IT'S ONLY 70%) So you will be great for keeping a team alive while everyone else does the real work for you. I've flipped some losing battles in a couple dungeons WAY back during the game's first few years.
Basically imagine Ice wizards in general like this stupid little thing I just came up with off the top of my head: Ice is known to be a hard solid, meaning that Ice wizards can be hard to kill in general due to basically being built like a solid wall or tank as others have said before me in this thread.
Ice has always been a good class, never bad. But obviously their spells have never been so keen on damage.
We get it, you main ice...
But honestly, it's foolish to think you need to play a school for years to know how to use it. Wizard101 is really not that complicated. Besides that, how good a certain school is can easily be changed depending on KI's mood and whatever buffs/nerfs they release... once again, making your experience with ice... well, useless.
Moving on, it's simple. Ice is a tank class with little to no damage output compared to other schools. The game, in it's current state, does not require tanking for the most part. It's just a waste of time and makes battles longer. It's just a much easier and streamlined experience if you go for a more dmg-oriented school like Fire/Storm or if you want dmg with survivability, then there's Death.
Oh you can elemental blade? So can everyone else. Balance and death are better choices if you want to support.
Life is even more invincible, supplying themselves and their team with infinite health while Ices sit in a corner for 5 rounds just to do the amount of damage Storm can do in a couple.
What is the point of having more survivability when your damage is so low that it requires you to have that tankiness in the first place? Lol..
The worst part is, Ice players don't even care. They'll sit around getting carried through dungeons until they're Cosmic, then go back to the Commons flexing that Ice is "the most fearsome school."
TLDR; When you compare Ice with the other schools in relation to the game being turn based Ice is going to under-perform. I'm not saying Ice players suck tho. I respect running underdog classes and doing challenge runs or handicapping yourself.
I know the OP is probably not around reading anymore- but MAJOR point of question - 'Suck' how exactly? OP doesn't separate PvE from PvP - which makes a difference in the answers.
The OP should also answer the question: WHAT IS YOUR OBJECTIVE for your character? Farming? Questing? PvP? Not Dying? Teamwork (like if you play w/ family)? Role-play? Aesthetic/theme?
Any answer to the above can help you pick your best character.
What I'm curious about is this:
You get xp in battle every turn you cast a spell (I don't think you get more for more mana use, but I can't explicitly remember rn.) - so an Ice wizard with longer battles gets more xp per battle - So there is a LIMITED potential for faster leveling.
(Which is still negligible probably, Most leveling xp seems to come from quest rewards, in my opinion.)
And not that anyone cares, but as Balance was brought up as a bad class - well most battles PvE I'm winning easily most the time, with the infrequent bad shuffles leaving me beat. Instance and Boss battles are very mixed bag - some are super easy, some super hard, and some luck of the draw. Ultimately, I think my results are 'balanced', with a side 'handicap' of being overleveled for my questing world skewing things in my favor... (I finished grinding for Watchtower Hall before I left Mooshu - breezed through Dragonspyre, but still got trounced by Malistaire before I got lucky.)
