So, if you only have a few characters who have gotten to Mooshu, I'd use membership until then, then purchase areas with crowns so you won't pay to access it essentially 6 times.
1. I don't play for a long enough time to offset the cost of buying the entire game vs. getting a month or longer membership. My obsession periods usually last 2-4 months and can pause every year or longer. I don't feel I've gotten my money's worth (at least not yet).
2. I didn't realise the perks & benefits membership offers vs. crowns-only non-member player. Things like double pet xp, first free 2nd chance chests, extra scroll of fortune rewards, zero energy fishing, etc. They're all pretty minor things in the grand scheme but because there are SO many of them in the millions of other features in the game, they seem worth it as someone who tries to dabble in these misc. activities.
3. My personal play style. It's tied to the two reasons above and boils down to the fact that I am a PVE-only player who gets into phases of playing the game, enjoys doing every side quest and activity, and can get through most of the game on a new character within a month or two.
Perhaps the only benefit to being a Crowns-only player is that I don't feel the pressure of having to play the game enough on a membership, and it's nice to (mostly) not have to think about paying anymore for the game whenever I decide to randomly pick it up again and can play at varying degrees of "obsession". But that's really it. I don't truly "own" the game since updates are constant and I still must purchase new areas and am kind of locked into this payment method with how much of the game I own (I can never justify buying a membership on this account again). And I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on all the membership perks & benefits I have no access to. But that's just my 2 cents!
