I want to download it but will I eventually run out of things to do without paying?

You'll run out within the first day. You can earn 100 crowns a day from trivia. Areas cost 750->3000 crowns. Each world costs around 10-12k crowns in total. You can earn more than 100 crowns a day (10-150~ more) if you don't play using the steam client, as non-steam accounts have access to video advertisements @ 10 crowns each.

The best thing you can do to save money is buy a 1 month subscription and power through all the worlds and unlock everything you need, then rely on crowns after that. You'll have enough for 1-2 areas after the month.

There's stuff to do even if you never unlock anything with crowns/buy a membership, like pet farming/training/breeding, gardening, fishing, etc., but in terms of pve progress you'll be halted at around level 10.

If you aren't willing to grind out crowns then yeah, you're gonna run out really quickly, Still more content then there was back in 2010 when I started playing though lol. And if you really don't want to grind them out, but are still interested. crowns periodically are given out in amounts from 250-20,000 I believe, and fansites do giveaways as well as youtubers, so as long as you are vigilant you can be entirely free to play.

If you want to play as ftp for ever - then no, it's not worth it.
But if you want to see how the game look like and what stuff you can do - then yes go ahead. And if you'll like it then i'd definitely suggest trying out one month memberhsip

I have to say (This coming from an old player who spent hours of hard work in the game and having gotten to level 26 without paying a single cent on my very old death account that eventually got hacked) there is VERY little to do in terms of Free-To-Play content, you're more than likely gonna get bored very quickly assuming you like the game so far and want more of what it has to offer. I do know they have added stuff like Monstrology and fishing etc. but even
then it's pretty much gonna be done at a "low level" and the rewards you get probably wouldn't entice anyone to keep doing it any further. Fact is (in my experience) I always ended up finding myself as far as PvE goes fighting bosses like the Kraken etc. Sitting in the commons literally doing nothing but watching people talk, goof around, and just argue etc. (Although now from what i've seen in youtube videos and such commons is practically dead? I could be wrong) But, if you're a PvP finatic and not even really interested in PvE that much aside from farming for gear, then it just gets even more boring as well, since pretty much all the gear you're pretty much allowed to get is from the bazaar and most of the gear as you know isn't all that good, Add to the fact that you're going to NEED a pet since there practically part of your stats and since you're again doing Free-To-Play the amount of gold you'll be earning is really low, so hatching is literally out of the question unless you spend a crazy amount of months-years saving that gold.

I have to mention, unless you're a solo player like myself, without any friends to play with this game gets that much more dull. Anyway, that's all I had to say.
