How to destroy a pirate base (HE missile racks) with 4 other HE missile turrets?

I consider using a massive artillery but so far they overwhelm my PD, what can I do best?

general tactic to kill each and every threat.

make expensive huuuge armor block "piece of cheese" ship, or tank if you will. draw fire with that one.

make a second at least double 8/9 railgun flanker, not kiter, its not needed. position it behind your tank, but pay attention for it to be cheaper than the tank. align your shots via fanning.

tactics:
fly in with tank in a vector so you only get the most outward platform to fire at the tank (diagonal approach). when done position your railfan, fan, kill.

rince and repeat for the other platforms. then snuff the station.


works for (at least) every single / not swarming enemy in the game.


there are of course multiple other tactics. like shoving an asteroid in for cover, draw a neutral ship in to help, just brute force it via more own missiles or PDs, etc.

I completed a mission like this yesterday, tho there was only 1 missile platform.

Range is important, but as luck would have it I had recently appropriated an enemy ship that has like 6 point defense turrets on it. I used that to approach the platform but NOT with right clicking on the target, rather just approaching within range of my weapons and just destroy any incoming missiles. Then with my other 3 ships, all with lasers (they are longer range than cannons) I simply parked them at my longest effective range and blasted the platform outta the sky with no other interference.

Laid siege to the station (careful with those massive cannons!) at long range and just waited until it was done. gl!

There is something fundamentally satisfying about driving a well shielded/armored brick up to their doorstep and blasting the snot out of them with deck guns.
