Cosmoteer: Starship Architect & Commander

Why won't crew load resources into factories?
The power for my coil factory is on.
I have tiles designated to receive factory output coils.
I have plenty of copper resources available to feed the factory.
My crew prefers playing cards in their quarters to loading the factory hoppers.

I can manually drag the copper into the factory bin and my crew will hop right to getting it going. But otherwise they don't bother. This doesn't seem to be a problem for my *weapons* factories -- they hop right to loading sulfur into the ammo factory. They just can't be bothered to load my coil factory.

Nope, it's not a crew setting either, all my Redshirts have the default priority 6 for all factories. So why do they hop right to loading sulfur into the ammo factory but refuse to load copper into the coil factory unless directly told to???

did i hear redshirt?? =P

did you assign a storage with the copper to the factory? a seperate one from the one the coils go to? did you set those storages with the specific res, e.g. coils and copper? did you also try to set the crew to the storages then? cause having redshirts on pro 6 is a bit to little of a "check" if anythings wrong =).

In frustration with the default settings not working I tried assigning storage to the factory, with no results. Meanwhile, my ammo factory, which has no supply chain assignments of any type, happily chugs out ammo from sulfur that my redshirts happily replace.

OK, so I deconstructed and reconstructed the factory. Nothing happened. Then I deconstructed the factory and reconstructed it in a different location in my ship. Suddenly my redshirts grab all my copper and turn it into coils. Seems like something is definitely bugged. Note that I have no links of any kind when I go into supply chain mode.

Oh, this is so bizarre. When I put the factory back in its old location, it stops working again. But there's no problem with pathing. I can manually drop copper into the factory bin and it works just fine. My workers just refuse to put it there automatically unless the factory is located somewhere else. What would cause this?

It currently has a bonus of +75% from adjacent factories, could this be messing something up?
Are you sure the entrance is not blocked in the position where it stops working? Here is one of my factory ships:

The coil has 100% bonus, two destination storages assigned to it, I have redshirts only and it works as it should. Could you post a screenshot of your setup please?

In my experience with Cosmoteer, selecting dedicated crews quarters via arrows to other buildings is the best way to control their action. Their uniform is not so important.
So a bunk of two crew (or more) dedicated to the factory will supply and deliver raw materials and finished products, respectively.

Mind uploading the bugged ship.png file?
edit: or the saved game with it not working

ya, showing the ship(+file) with settings is probably the best way to find some clues. i did a few rail/missile ships lately and i dont have any probs with factories whatsoever.
Sometimes the factory material output or input port gets disabled, There a mode where you can see if they are on/off

I'll try to upload the ship.png file tomorrow, I often have trouble with uploads on Steam

The factory is still working, provided I manually tell the squads to load the hoppers. But where would I see if the ports are disabled? The main screen shows whether the power is on. I didn't see any way to disable ports from the resources screen.

Which works just fine if you load it in Creative mode. But crew ignores the factory in my current game unless I force them to pick up copper and deliver it to the hoppers.

Hmmm, I have no idea how to save this as a PNG on Steam, it seems to be converting it into whatever it wants.

Yeah factories not working right, this is sometimes the problem, clicking those without noticing.

Really not sure what this is used for when there's an ON OFF switch on the whole factory. Probably remnants of an half developed idea early stage of development.

Yup, that is exactly the problem, thank you! Fixed!
