Engines are damaged, and airlock is broken. Am I just dead
I can't repair because the airlock took a hit. Everything else besides engines and airlock are fine. But my crew can't get out to repair. Am I just screwed? Why is there no SOS beacon or something like in starsector?

Currently there's no SOS beacon, no, but if you still have any degree of working thrust you can limp back to a station; stations will help with your repairs too, meaning you can repair/edit without a functional airlock.

Yes you are just dead if you can't get outside your ship or if you can't rebuild thrusters. You might get lucky if a trading ship passes by you

that would be no help either. he cant repair even if he had the material to do so because repairing happens from outside.

I don't use trading ships much but I assume traders help rebuild your ship if they have the materials

Do allied AI ships participate in building your ship?

Move your camera to a station.
Select - build new ship from scratch.
select a location close to the station.
Build minimal ship (if possible).
Fly to the stricken ship.
Fix.

I think there certainly needs to be a solution for the No Airlock situation. Be it the player having the ability to breach or something else. The same can be true for enemies. I've managed to disabled enemy ships with little damage - cockpit is dead but that's about it - then I notice the Airlock is out too and I have no option but to dismantle a ship I was aiming to keep.

What other options do people think the game should give in No Airlock situations? I guess the obvious is "build more airlocks" as it less likely that they'll all be taken out at once.

This situation can be more frustrating during the early game, when the player may still only have one ship and other ships are simple, single airlock designs.

I can imagine, as the AI and game features improve, a "SoS" option might be available to get a tow to a friendly station.

Who's gonna build that ship? His crew in lost in space.
Also even with I Hate Construction ON, once you made a new ship near the base, how is it going to contact the station to get crew for the empty ship when no one is commanding it?

That's why you build it near a station. I believe you can do that, and then assign crew. Maybe not though because you need to call for the crew? Not sure honestly. I think you can use the transfer option to transfer crew to the newly built ship, i.e you don't need to use comms. Again, never been in the situation myself so yeah, I'm guessing a bit.

Already is. Get near a friendly station and their crew will do the rebuilding.

OK the station crew can help you build? But how does you ship move near a station when you have no engines?
