It has been said that 'docking' would be a future addition.
you can put on the contakpionts "use the manuel explosions-items", think if you use them you have 2 ships back *or not* i have dont test it, but think can work.
Giant mangled space hulks sound like fun (but not very efective) style of building.
Hostile docking however could be an interesting concept. Charge at enemies and attatch yourself to them like a virus. Could be a fun way to deal with heavily shielded ships too. Go in at point blank range to get inside their shields.
Also good would be to merge with wrecks, either the ones from the ship graveyards or others found elsewhere from battles.
Press the hamburger menu for each ship and chose save ship and name them.
"Merging"
1.Click "Make a new ship button".
2.Chose "load in ship (paste into existent)" In the load hamburger menu.
(don't chose the other load in option since it will replace the saved ship file).
3.Chose one of the saved ships you saved.
4.Place the bluebrint layout and press "make it so".
5.Set Blueprint mode to "on".
6.Redo 2.3.4 (chose the other saved ship for step 3)
7.Then ad or remove blocks to make the "merge"complete
(Blinking red blocks are not connected or is covering ocupied space).
8. Press "make it so" when your satisfied.
9. Set blueprint mode to "off".
Sadly this is not an option with wrecks / derelicts that you can not take control.
The idea is to merge / weld / connect whole ships (empty or with crew) or even wrecks. This expands the options and gameplay / strategies you can use.
Op was asking about merging two haulers into on ship without dismantling them was possible. And yes you can do that in building mode.
A mod creator could invent a system that can link/meld/merge ship together someday.
Someone already created a Hanger system for small ships.
And yes wrecks without airlocks can not be re-claimed.
I can see the merging of two or more blueprints into one, regardless of starting with an existing ship or an empty template. What I have yet to see is how to merge two existing ships, building mode is only available with just one (and only one, that is my experience so far) ship selected.
Regarding the wrecks you need both the Airlock and one Bunk Or one Quarters.
You can load in any number of ship blueprints and puzzle them together or connect them with explosive connection links.
You just need to set blueprint mode to on.
I created a full figterwing by connecting the blueprints with lines of blocks and explosives.
1 block + 1 block + explosive... repeat.
I understand your method and it works for the scenarios you describe. It requires, however, that you have enough materials in storage to build everything.
This still feels like adding one blueprint to another ship / blueprint:
- Two ships in fleet, both blueprints saved.
- Edit one in blueprint mode and add the blueprint of the other one, fine tune everything and "Make it so".
- You end up with two ships.
- Transfer crew, abandon unmodified ship, salvage materials.
This is how I see your method and, yes, it works provided you have the materials in storage.
If my understanding is flawed in some way please let me know.
Can you point out for that mod / Hanger system?
Instant fleet deploy formula, just detonate the explosives
If its full career mode play without free build Its true that you end up with 2 ships.
And isn't a good sollution to use in that scenario.
As you pointet out : "yes, it works provided you have the materials in storage".
It is the only sollution available until some one uploads a working merging system.
Can you point out for that mod / Hanger system?
