Coop looks good, what's stopping multiplayer campaign pvp?
Coop looks good, what's stopping multiplayer campaign pvp? Isn't it a small step to that if coop is already working?

Ok, I'll bite. How should it work?

Pool resources to build starports that build over time in a system, destroy and build your own starport to conquer that system. Build sensors to detect where players are and any incoming fleets. If coop is working, the network connection is there, shouldn't be much of a leap to make it.

Right, but the PvP part. You gotta balance things, too. What kind of game flow would this introduce? You clash and lose the PvP bout, destroying your last ship. Your station gets destroyed. What then? This game is intended for long-form play, if two players clash, one will lose and be set back possibly very far, which is more frustrating than fun.

waiting to see how starsector handles it so they can just copy and paste it.

Balance - Already addressed, the prior game had many tweaks to make ships balanced in pvp. Yes if your last ship and station gets destroyed, you lose the game. That doesn't mean you can't build other ships, and use them. I don't see how this is difficult to do or understand.

I'm not talking about ship balance, I'm talking about game flow and balance.

Destruction in career mode DOES mean EXACTLY that. If you lose your last ship, you're done, so introducing PvP into co-op career turns it from career gameplay into deathmatch gameplay. The goal becomes not to just play and enjoy and explore but to defeat the other player, which will END the game for the other player.

What's wrong if it would be like pvp death match? I guess people choosing this game mode want it exactly like that. At least I would play it :)

So? You can make it so you spawn back at a base and grab another ship. What are you not getting? Career mode is GOING to be different to pvp. THATS THE POINT OF PVP.

Pacing/changing time/game speed/scale/the fact that if you go offline, your ships go into full control of the host.
