It may spin charged weapons into combat if the initial facing is out of power or damaged.
Stepping the lasers reduced it broadsiding and adding 2 laser batteries in front eliminated it completely.
So there's automation in the targeting to allow for any type of ship.
I guess you really cant read, because I answered how this works right above your first comment. You hold shift after engaging an enemy to show the options to change your angle of attack/distance to target, and rotation on your target, and then you can SAVE that position relative to target as your default range+angle+rotation.
You CAN hold and drag your move command to set facing for the move command but this wouldn't work for combat, since autopilot wants to maintain a set distance, angle, and rotation to your target, otherwise it would be impossible for your ship to engage properly when they enemy moves in the way they want to.
