Curious about games similar to this but very specific

So I am planning on buying this game, but my friends aren't interested because of how the PVP works. I am curious if there is a game out there that is like this Cosmoteer, and also like the CIV series games. So something like 3 to 4 player pvp, each person starts in their own part of the galaxy with a small ship and builds up from there gaining allies or enemies as they try to win by wiping out the others or fame or money, etc.

I think Consuela got most of the games that could be relevant, personally I think Avorion might be the best fit but there really is no good game like this that also comes with a robust "CIV" experience as well, at least none that I have heard of.

Even though it has close to 0 in common with what you were asking for I still have to recommend Crusader Kings 3 for anyone wanting some fun multiplayer with friends simply because you can really mess with people in it without completely ruining their game and you can get some hilarious scenarios happening.

i would also add Star Valor to this list because the amount of customizing on your ships in that game is endless...

Avorion is my all time favorite though with hundreds of hours (since early alpha)...

But it isnt multiplayer... Nobody has suggested a single game with what I have asked, you guys are just suggesting cool games you like with some of the things im looking for but not all. I dont think it exists yet :shrug:

Starsector - not on steam, google it... more in depth then most games of this genre.
Starcom Nexus - has an story n more rpg to it.
Stardeus - think Rimworld, but in space.
Star Control Origins - very colorful story driven rpg space game, bout saving humanity.

Given what everyone written already, I'm going to say you are looking either for Homeworld or Sins of a Solar Empire.
