factory workers not moving items from factories
the only way i can get workers to move say coils from the factories is by setting a cargo block for coils .. if the tiles are set to anything the workers will not move coils from the factory to the empty cargo blocks .. i dont want to have my entire mining ship set to coils for eg and having to change them to plates when im doing iron or both .. its just silly

im guessing this is a bug of some kind ... im playing in the demo

doors are available items will move if storage is set directly for them and them alone ..
the factories fill up just fine ..
if i drag block of say coils completed in the factory to a storage block the units will move the coils to the new storage location just fine

they just wont move them automatically .. they have full access they have been set to move items .. i have specific workers that deal with factory work as well as the default units who do basically everything on the ship aswell ,..

its really annoying .. im like if i have to macro manage every single item in storage why bother having the units do it XD

You have copper ore go in, coils pile up in the factory. Here's how to fix that.
Go to "manage resources" (the box shape above the bottom left panel or press V).
Click to turn on supply chain mode (the box shape with two right arrows in the bottom left panel, or press T), this will toggle the mode on.
Select your factory (left click) and select where you want the resources to be stored (right click! Not left click here). You should see animated arrows from the factory to the storage. You can do the same for selecting a storage to pull from (left click the storage to select it, then right click the factory). This is particularly useful in arranging higher end production.

thats why you need secondary ship for storage house.

its not a bug per say.... you have to go to inventory mode and select specific spot(s) for that item. Once you do that... workers will ONLY fill that inventory spot with that item and will take from the factories. You NEEEEEED it for the ammo factory. I keep mine in the middle of the ship far away from the cannons and keep a 4x4 container next to each cannon. I set the 4x4s to only accept ammo and they stay full as long as I have the sulfur.

I think this is a bug or at least something that should be improved upon.
Mining several thousands of iron and having to drag each Steel pile out of the factory when it fills up, feels needlesly tedious to say the least.

Also the above doesn't work in practise because you then lock that pile from having anything else = BAD.

I tried to setup two way points to transfer goods but they don't move the finished products out and this efgfectively halts production even though you sit on a mountain of iron for example.

It's quite good for things you want to have limited iterations of though.
So it'd be good if they input a button to say if the crew should move it or no.

it does need some kind of switch, like a 3rd export option to push resources out regardless of if there is a reserved place

Agreed. I dont think it is working as intended. Player wants to have iron converted to metal plates until there is no iron left on the ship. Same with other factories.

Yes, when I first encountered this it was annoying. I also moved stuff from factories by hand. After setting up where metal, metal plates, copper, and coils can go with a couple extra storage for any thing else and it worked perfectly. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2870985550
If you want to know why it is like it is, it is better then making an ammo factory, start it up, look away for a bit, return to see you have no room for any thing now because its all ammo all over the place.
Every factory would be fighting to fill up every available spot you have if it was not like this forcing you to turn your factories on and off to save on cargo space.

well they could make it so u can choose what can go in each cargo spot with a tick box system ... so for eg ammo can be only in 1 cargo room with everything else unticked and in other rooms u can set up everything except ammo so that ammo can only be in 1 room bar a few other rooms spefically set to things like chips and other things used for repairs like a cargo bay at the center of the ship having 1 of every expensive repair/build component with armour around it

easy fix and i bet in the background it kinda already works like this anyways meaning they only have to bring it up to a user interface and control level

If you click on the box at the bottom left to get to your inventory, you can then click on anything, lets say a metal plate, then click on one or more storage spots to make it so only that item is aloud there.
In my screenshot I set up a storage for metal, metal plates, copper, and coils in there own spot. Extras and everything else goes to the unset storage's.

Could you tell me how to send the pictures to the forum? thank you

F12 to take a picture. Once you exit the game it should pop up asking if you want to upload. If not that option is not turned on and you must go to your profile, screenshots, upload. Once uploaded click on a picture in your library to make it pop up in a new window. You then copy the URL at the top and past it in the forums.

If you do not see a URL at the top go to steam at the top left, settings, interface, and turn on
display web address bars when available.

Can also turn on screenshot uploader after you close a game in steam, settings, cloud, and turn on open the screenshot uploader after closing a game if screenshots were taken.

Becca, I was having the exact same problem. You WANT the factory goods to just automatically get moved into available storage. ANY storage. I figured out how to make this happen:

When you select "Manage Resources" and then click on a factory, two little inverted "U"'s with arrows appear. One is to automatically deliver (resources TO). The other is to automatically supply (fnished goods=>storage). Green (for resources) / Blue (for goods) is on. Red is Off.

I had selected my "automatically supply" inverted-U to off (RED). Clicking it back to blue solved ALL my problems. Finished goods were now automatically removed to any available free storage. Note: I didn't have to fiddle with anything else, no supply chains, no forcing storage squares to only allow a certain good, no mucking with my worker priorities. Give this a shot and see if it works for you.

@SamF7 Are you sure that is working? I just tried it in creative mode and the Blue mode (Automatically Supply) is on by default. Disabling it just makes it so that the products aren't removed from the output even if you set up a supply line or reserve a storage slot for that material. Or if a weapon needs it.

What works quite well is setting up a simple supply chain. A supply chain between a fabricator and a storage will cause the crew to fill all empty places in that storage with the output of the fabricator.
