Using trackers for hip based movement?
People seem to be really impressed with DecaMove, I feel like for those of us who already have a tracking solution on our hips (or even with a switch controller) this software seems like it already has the tools in place to do hip based movement direction. Is this something we can configure with the software now? or would it require an update?

+1 would like to know if this software supports hip-directed locomotion with vive tracker

Nalo feet always been working like this. Your feet mark the direction of the locomotion (which is even better than hip only). If you use two joycon or ps3move on feet you can use a smartphone or a vive tracker in the pocket to calibrate the direction with the hip direction, but quick rotations are detected with the feet sensors. It took us 1 year to perfectionate it at this level.

In the case of using 2 smartphones or 2 vive trackers in the feet, the hip tracker is not even required.

Nalo even detects the locomotion direction with the movement of the first step while turning which is faster more immersive and intuitive than wait to the hip rotation movement

Just to jump on this - is hip directed movement something we have to configure in the profile? (currently have 2 joy cons and phone and it seems to follow the head direction in zero caliber?)

Nop it should be using hip direction by default (if the phone is configured as body tracker (there is a button in the app for this).

So it sounds like it already works like this, I know it does with the arm swinging or running in place that you guys have designed, but does it also remap things so it will work with joystick movement?

I do not (necessarily) want to emulate locomotion with my feet. I just want hip-directed joystick locomotion. Is that an existing feature or no?

This is what i'm trying to figure out too, I think it's possible but it would require unbinding the arm swing or feet movement and then have it somehow take over for joystick input.

This is currently not supported. It would be relatively easy for us to implement it since... we are alerady doing this for walk-in-place locomotion, but I think it would not be fair for Decagear team if we develop the exact same thing but cheaper before the launch of their hardware.

I also think that our locomotion system is very immersive, fun and could be a good alternative for Decamove without compete between us. In fact we want to add support to Decamove as a official tracking device to our software for walk in place.

exactly. that is all that is needed. the feet and arm swinging thing would feel silly and janky to do. unless it helps you with vr sickness its kinda pointless. we just want hip direction based thumbstick movement. if it is confirmed this app can do this i will buy it. if not, i wont.

In my opinion armswing and walk in place locomotion are not only helping to reduce motion sickness. It also makes the VR experience pretty much immersive and fun.

We are developing a game and the first thing we did was the locomotion system. We liked it so much that regular joystick locomotion was no longer immersive for us.

This happened 1 month before the launch of Skyrim and... we planned to create the joystick emulation app to make Skyrim playable with our system (initially for us only).

We finally launched our app and there are thousands of people that also like it! :D

After a year of work we launched the feet mode which I think is the most immersive locomotion system for VR so far.

I really want this and I would also gladly purchase once this feature is added. I do not think it would be exceptionally unfair to Deca since they are targeting a different segment of the market, specifically those without vive trackers or steamvr hardware in general. Once this idea spreads it's likely going to start getting added to games' default options anyway, to use a vive tracker or DecaMove for hip-directed locomotion. Same as how we wound up with the head/hand-directed locomotion standard we have now.

This is where we're coming from by the way.

If we launch this feature we are literally targeting the same market: People without vive trackers (or lighthouse devices) because it would work with a simple free app running in a smartphone.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myousoftware.nalo_device

This also would work with vive trackes but it is not required.

Launching this feature wouldn't take us more than 1 day of development. We have everything done! The tracking app, the joystick emulation driver, even the locomotion direction correction algorithm using hip direction (currently used for walk in place mode).

But we don't want to throw all the decamove work to the trash only to win a few bucks. We think their effort is awesome and they will push VR forward with its philosophy.

We really think decamove is great and could be also used with our software making both better.

I see. I hope if they do not add support for vive trackers and other hardware then you would reconsider this in the future. Thanks.

i have said this before and ill say it again, i can seriously respect these developers and their consideration for others. they have an excellent moral code which is rare to see these days. that being said i dont think it would be a problem to add this feature a few weeks after decamove has been officially released... or if at least once decagear is released.
