Whatever the issue is its only impacting the Steam version. at least for me. I tired disabling Steam In-Game Overlay AND disabling Steam Cloud Sync but it doesn't help.
I could return the game, but I really want to play it!
So on my Windows 10 laptop I CAN run BOTH the Epic Version and the Steam version of the game.
But on my Windows 11 laptop I CANNOT run the Steam version of the game ONLY the Epic version. Hope than can help the devs narrow down the problem.
My 1st Laptop that CAN run it is:
Manufacturer: ASUS,
OS: Windows 10 Home
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 950m Shared/Intel 550 HD Integrated
CPU: Intel i5
System RAM 12 GB
Hard Drive: Hard Disk
My Second Laptop that CANNOT run the game:
Manufacturer SAGER
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU 4 GB Dedicated and Intel UHD Graphics 8 GB Shared
CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i7
System RAM: 16 GB
Hard Drive: Solid State
Do I have a chance to set some options flag that will log what happens on program startup?

YOU ARE MY HERO. This worked! Thank you so much!
Ok this is so weird. IT WORKED! But what I dont get is why? Like I said previously this PC I am using has had no problem running the Epic version of this game. Why on earth would this launch option command make the Steam version work? My hardware is still the same after all. May I ask if you know what the hell is this command line doing that allows the Steam version to run?
I have set it as the answer for our discussion.
Looking forward to the official solution for this problem. And thanks for everyone's contribution.
In the %userprofile%\AppData\Local\TheSojourn, there are no logs. Just some folder entries in the %userprofile%\AppData\Local\TheSojourn\Saved\Config\CrashReportClient containing an ini file and many ini files in the \WindowsNoEditor folder
Not reassuring that the issue hasn't been fixed during the last 6 months given the date stamps from the previous messages.
To set launch options follow this guide:
Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
cmd /c "set OPENSSL_ia32cap=:~0x20000000 && %command%"
apparently this fix is also used to fix some other games not just this one.
