All these suggestions are very good. I aggree with you as a new amateurs. number 2 and 3 will exactly be very usefull. Also we can set lines for directions such as stern - port - aft before docking and by clicking the related button activate them for tight to lines.

Additional scenario (Baltic Sea, Germany, the Netherlands..) is docking in a box.
Consider taking tuition, lots of tuition. This game is no substitute for the real thing. It'll merely bring you up to a level when learning to sail is more practical and less homework. It won't teach you how to dock, just the concept. (Though it does really well with the spring lines).
