I was also wanting to see this 30% off, especially considering that it's the summer sale and this is a summery sort of game (silly i know, but still...).

I’m not really sure how to answer that. Our policy is generally to just have a sensible price. It’s pretty cheap really when you consider there is well over 6 man years of work. So why should that work be worth less this week? Makes no sense to me!

Funnily enough our sales always go up during Steam sales! Probably people realise just how cheap eSail already is!

If it was on sale though you might move 10x the units, might actually get promoted to front page, might actually make top sellers list. could perhaps sell 100x the units. Oh well I tried.

Many thanks but happy with our level of sales right now!

This game is well worth the asking price. Think of what it would cost to buy and maintain a boat in real life and you'll realize what a bargain this is. Lol

Gee I guess mass effect for $50 is a great deal considering a spaceship costs trillions 🤡

Totally agree - and there's the cost of day sails or milebuilders, never mind owning a boat, or for those of us stuck way inland, just the cost and hassle of getting to the coast in the first place. So yes, absolutely, a complete bargain for the practice you can put in at your convenience, even if it's just just to keep it in your head between trips on the water, about the lines and winches and MOB procedure and mooring and reefing and so on and on and on. And that's before you even get to the upcoming update...

You are comparing apples and oranges though, two things which are mutually exclusive. One could make the same argument comparing the cost of flying a real plane compared to flying in a $80 sim but there really IS NO comparison there...same thing here.

If you want to know if some software title is priced well or not then you can compare it to other software games, or you can compare the personal value it may bring to you compared to other software games.

But, you don't compare it to real life boating, that's just ridiculous....and a truly false justification, tbh.

Yep I compared sailing with a simulation of sailing. An apple with a simulated apple. Outrageous stuff, I know. Massively controversial. I can see why you think that's ridiculous.

Yup...when you have over 40 years of real world flight experience and see gamer's online who think that after 1,000 hours in a desktop sim that they can actually fly a real plane you tend to either see it as funny, naive, or scary...anything but true, lets put it that way.

If you are doing time in a real level D full motion sim THEN you can use YOUR analogy of comparing an apple to a simulated apple, yes. But that is clearly not the case here. This is just an educational game, not a real simulator that can actually take the place of putting in the on-board time & experience in the real thing.

Please don't confuse me with an online gamer and I know I can sail a boat because I do. You said yourself in another thread that you've done no sailing, so as I have, I'll trust my own judgement on the value that can be gained from being able to practice operating the winches, lines and everything else I mentioned in my post, while I'm otherwise landlocked and growing rusty.

This is all why I rate eSail so much more than Sailaway, for example. There's no operation of the bits of the boat in Sailaway. The jib is self-tacking. The lines magic themselves onto winches.
Now that is a true online game. We're not going to see eye to eye clearly and that's fine. I'm sure your opinion is well-founded, and I'll stick with my own, thanks, as it's based on my own sailing experience.

25 years motoring, not sailing...but no matter, as same thing applies to what I've said...no matter how difficult you wish to be.

Again...there are just so many things you cannot, and will not learn from an educational game like this that the list is crazy long. Forgetting about the huge physical differences between handling a sail boat in person and handling one portrayed in a game using mouse/keyboard/controller there are literally dozens of other skills one can simply not acquire while at their desktop. Life saving skills too, not meaningless ones.y are too many to even mention...and as someone with experience you should be just as well aware but for some reason you almost seem to be covering up the fact...pure silliness.

I never said there wasn't value in a computer game, in fact there is much one can learn from these games and I made it pretty clear that there IS value and that the exact value is a personal thing...

...what I also said was that value should not be compared with the cost of the real life activity, as this is comparing apples and oranges and is quite silly...it also sounds like something you might tell your wife if she complains about you spending too much money on games :-)

...been simming since 1980's so I understand the gamer's mentality, regardless of you thinking that you're not one.

Anyway...if you can justify your opinion for not having a sale, then others can certainly justify their opinions on the opposing side.

Enjoy your sailing.

The price is very well justified, this is an awesome educational software from which not only you can learn a lot but also enjoy sailing. Just giving my personal opinion, worths every penny and more.
