eSail Sailing Simulator

eSail Sailing Simulator

Miller Lighthouse
I approached from the south heading north with a Force 10 southerly, Into wind about 2 miles out and dropped sails to approach with engine. About 1 mile out I ran aground, the chart isn't very detailed, in hindsight I should have rounded the island and approached into wind - my bad. I've tried all sorts of ways to re float my boat, including sails up to lean sideways and un-dig the keel. I'm in Live Sail. Can someone give me a steer on how to fix this, or even better a tow?:steamfacepalm:

I have not used sails to refloat although I see no reason it should not work if the wind is in the right drection. Generally I would advise dropping the sails, then putting the engines on full power and leaving for a couple of minutes at least while turning helm from side to side. If your rudder is dug in as well though it could be difficult!

If that doesn't work, and you really don't want to reset Live Sailing and go back to the beginning (which I can understand) then please send me your Live Sailing data folder and I will try to extract you!. See the Technical Support forum for data location and email address to send to.

Thanks - I managed to do it, I put up full sails and sheeted them right in - in a 44 kt wind! My boat tipped sideways and by gunning the engine up to max I got off. I've picked up the Light house POI but will be more wary around the other northern islands. Thanks for the game BTW, I think its brilliant. I have the latest Sailaway too but yours is far better. Not least that you can play it offline.

I think Sailaway and eSail are very different animals and hopefully we both have something to offer. Many thanks for the update Derek - sounds like an interesting experience!

Yes, I came in from almost due South of the Lighthouse, but was lucky in that there were only light Northerlies and a calm sea. As you approach, you will see the depth rapidly decrease. At that point drop to a low speed, and switch to an underwater view to get a clear view of the ridges. I had to detour to the east , but was able to find a good, deep channel to get me close to the lighthouse POI. Once I had it, I was able to exit, heading generally West, again using the underwater view until deep water. Good sailing!
