You can play together with people on one PC, though each player would also need a mobile device with the free Cluesheet Companion app installed, available for ios and Android. Being honest, maybe the physical Clue board game would be easier playing together in the same place, but what Marmalade has done here with the free mobile app is a creative way to avoid the problem of accidentally revealing what one player knows to the others present.

how do you get it to work?
because i tried the "host a local game" where my friend showed up but I didn't. then i tried the one that was just "host a game" where I showed up but then my Friend didn't. and neither of us are terribly savvy when it comes to this sort of thing.
so any sort of help or advice on how to fix this or even what's actually wrong would be much appreciated!

I have to confess it's been quite some time since I've used the local multiplayer, given the pandemic situation, and it was finicky when I did use it with my friends for a game night. We did make a point of connecting our mobile devices to the same home wifi network the central PC was on. However, it's unclear to me how the networking is handled for local multiplayer - whether the PC acts as host or if the multiplayer servers are used as a go-between. I see reports here on the forum fairly routinely of the multiplayer servers getting bugged or being just completely unavailable, though it seems intermittent rather than long outages. Really do wish I could be more helpful.

ah. we kind of wondered if it was a glitchy snot. that answers that.
no worries, you helped enough. we didn't even have an idea What was going on. we're both pretty ignorant when it comes to some of the stuff younger, more mentally swift people take for granted. lol
and by "we", i mean myself and my house mate. hence the playing a game together during quarantine. he just got a steam account & we were bored. so we figured we'd give it a shot. [shrugs]
ah well. some time, we may try again when he has time off and see what we can manage.
thanks for the help in any case. <3
