Seeing this game now, on a computer, modernized, is something magical and dreamlike to me because back when I was a little kid it was beyond the realm of possibilities. So thank you for making this game a thing that exists that I will now have (probably) forever in digital format.
Also, I love the cosmetics. They're fun and new but still play into the original vibe of the game in unique, creative ways. Plus I have the attention span of a fly so it's nice to have new "oooh, shiny!!!" things keeping my attention.
If I had one suggestion at all to make it'd be a Sherlockian/Victorian London-y cosmetic set. Otherwise everything (to me) is absolutely perfect.
(Maybe also sci-fi........ Superheroes? Halloween... the holiday, not the movie... Fantasy?... okay, a few suggestions.)
Point is I love this game and I am going to play the heck out of it and I love everything I've seen so far and I can't wait to see more and I'm excited ok.
I normally don't buy games unless they're on sale. Everything goes to the wishlist first and sits there until a sale.
But I love Clue, and made an exception for it.
The Victorian theme would be perfect for the game. I wonder who would get the deerstalker hat..? My bet is on Plum.
BTW, another game you might be interested in is A Matter of Murder. If you get a chance, watch Jessa's 'let's play' for it.
I'll definitely check that game out, too! Thanks for the recommendation! :D
Happy sleuthing!
Some other interesting potential thems could be (assuming the devs could get the rights and they're not that expensive! Though this is a wish list of mine, and its not going to be too likely) :
- Dr Who
- Final Fantasy (all games)
- X-Files
- Star Trek
- CSI
- Game of Thrones
Thats all for now :)
I'm skeptical about the obtainment of the rights, but who do you think would be who, anyway?
I think White would be Daenerys, Scarlet would be Cersei, and Mustard would be Jaime.
Peacock could be Margaery, Green might be Varys? Plum could be Jon, Peach could be Sansa or Arya, Brunette could be Drogo. I'm drawing a blank for Rose and Orchid, but there are so many characters I'm sure they'd be someone.
The graphics are much better and it's so nice not having to toggle the clue sheet on and off the screen with it in view at all times.
The clue sheet also seems easier to use, without having to scroll it. It removes the hazard of misclicking a clue (which can be disastrous if you don't catch it right away).
And the AI is very good. I just played a solo game where I correctly guessed the killer and the weapon on my first turn, and all the AI players followed me into the room and made the same suggestion.
However, you write as though you think this is the first Cluedo PC game? There have been tons! After the console game in 1992 (which I never played), there was an amazing PC game in 1996 which featured full-motion video (and was brilliantly acted).
Then there was Cluedo: Murder at Blackwell Grange (1998), which is probably closest in spirit and atmosphere to this new game. There was also a Cluedo in 2008, which was the same gameplay but quite cartoony and casual.
And in addition to all this there was a very mediocre point and click adventure game in 2000 called Cluedo Chronicles: Fatal Illusion, which featured the characters but none of the classic gameplay. I guess they wanted that to be a series but it performed badly (with good reason).
In any case: there are tons of Cluedo PC games! The 1998 one is definitely the best until this new one (which is the best version I've seen). But the 1996 FMV version, which is very much like the old Cluedo TV series, is fun too - there are loads of clips of it on YouTube.
There's a TV SERIES?
Aaaaa, I definitely need to find that!
And thanks for bringing all these different versions to my attention--I had no idea! I'll see if I can find anything about them online. I'd love to see them at the very least, if playing them isn't an option (which, hopefully it is).
It was quite a big deal - there'd be dramatic 're-enactments' of the murder and its aftermath, performed by extremely respected British actors playing the Cluedo characters, such as Kate O'Mara, Joan Sims, Joanna Lumley, Tom Baker (even Jerry Hall), then celebrity panel guests would try to guess who the murderer was. Admittedly a departure from the real Cluedo, but so much fun. And some of those actors - e.g. Joan Sims - reprised their roles in the 1996 FMV game (which is also on YouTube in pretty much its entirety).
Cluedo was always a little bigger in the UK than elsewhere because it is, of course, a UK invention. It's like our version of the US's Monopoly - these were the first two board games to pretty much go global. :-)
I wish it had been bigger over here, honestly. It's such a fun, fantastic game.
If only we'd had a game show. Tim Curry could've been in it...
Pool Party map, character skins that follow stereotypical slasher movie characters.
Pirate Map/Characters.
Ohhh how about either :
- Friday the 13th
- Nightmare on Elm Street
- Pirates of the Carribean
Granted these themes are unlikely, but having a cludeo based upon the summer camp with the camp guides / attendants as the characters would be pretty awesome :)
Same with Friday the 13th, really, for the same reason. But a generic camp theme would be pretty cool anyway!
I think generic themes are the way to go...
Pirates
Sci-Fi
Victorian
Summer Camp
Christmas
Sea Cruise
Masquerade Ball
