Bitdefender Total Security 2019 - Probably the reason your game won't start
To save people some time, I am going to post my findings for this game not working properly. The Advanced Threat Defender and the Firewall are the main reasons the game won't work with Bitdefender as your antivirus. I added the last two as they are very common culprits for video games having similar issues.

It probably has to do with some kind of whitelisting with Bitdefender. Either way, here are my findings on how I got the game to play and this will probably fix other issues with other games if you own this version of Bitdefender.

Bitdefender Total Security 2019 workaround:

((( Advanced Threat Defender ))) - If the game is not even starting up, this is cause
1. Click on Protection on the left side of the navigation bar
2. On the right hand side, click settings under "Advanced Threat Defense"
3. Click "Add applications or exceptions"
4. Navigate to ..\Steam\steamapps\common\LET IT DIE\Binaries\Win64\BrgGame-Steam.exe (..\ is wherever you are storying your steam folder)
5. Click the box to the left of BrgGame-Steam.exe and press Ok
6. You should see the BrgGame-Steam.exe listed under the Excepted Applications

((( Firewall ))) - This blocks the game from accessing the LID server
1. Click on Protection on the left side of the navigation bar
2. In the middle, click settings under "Firewall"
3. Click "Add rule"
4. Click Browse
4. Navigate to ..\Steam\steamapps\common\LET IT DIE\Binaries\Win64\BrgGame-Steam.exe (..\ is wherever you are storying your steam folder)
5. Click on BrgGame-Steam.exe and press Ok. Press Ok again to Apply the firewall exception
6. You should see the BrgGame-Steam.exe listed under the Rules

((( Antivirus ))) - This is optional. I couldn't find anything that this was directly causing issues. Add this exception at your own risk. Game executables can sometimes get messed up by the Antivirus scan. But, at this time, I haven't had a chance to play the game enough to see if Bitdefender was causing any other problems.
1. Click on Protection on the left side of the navigation bar
2. On the left, click settings under "Antivirus"
3. Click Exceptions at the top and then click Add
4. Click Browse
4. Navigate to ..\Steam\steamapps\common\LET IT DIE\Binaries\Win64\BrgGame-Steam.exe (..\ is wherever you are storying your steam folder)
5. Click on BrgGame-Steam.exe and press Ok. Press Add to Apply the exception

((( Safe Files - Application Access ))) - Only make adjustments to this if you receive a notification in Bitdefender stating the application is being blocked by this. If Let it Die tries to access a folder that is protected, such as the C drive, for external files. Those files will be blocked by this area.
1. Notifications in the navigation bar at the bottom left
2. You will see a notification stating "Application access blocked"
3. Click to expand the error and click View Application
4. On the right side of the screen you will see a button next to a trash can. Click it to turn it blue with a check mark.

Security is important, but not if it stops basic functionality. I love/hate Bitdefender because of this. If you have an anti-virus, its more than likely the same type of issue. Anyways, hopefully this will fix your issue.

Hi M@croByte, I've just come across this thread and was hoping you could help me.
I have Bitdefender and I believe it's not allowing me to play Parkitect.
I've tried to follow your guide above but can't seem to navigate the Steam file.
I'm not great with PC's but could you possibly give me a bit of a dummies guide to creating this exception?
Thanks so much

I am not an expert, but I can try to help. Sent you a friend request.
I know it's not Steam's fault, but you would think that "GAME MODE" in BitDefender would automatically allow this behavior from a GAME platform

I sent you a friend request a while ago but never heard back so just in case you still need the answer. You need to go to the steam directory of your game. You can go to the directory of the game by clicking Properties for that game, click the local files tab and then browse local files. They should give you the location of where the exectuable is for Parkitect. From there, you should be able to use the instructions above to whitelist your game. If you still have issues after following the instrucitons, you can get support from bitdefender directly by clicking the support button in the app and then contact support. This generates a form that basically e-mails them and then they will follow-up with you to ask what the problem is.
