how to defeat black thunder nightmare
i have a +8 kamas, +5 red napalm set, i go in with red stingshrooms, umbrella fungus, infinite ammo shrooms, life shrooms, i take 1/3rd of his health easy peasy, but then it feels like he takes no damage when he is at 2/3rd of his health.
is there a catch with this fight or something???

A lot of people try to use dragonbuster sword rage move and time it so that it is ready for Black Thunder's last possible attack of combos. It works pretty well and will stagger him every couple of hits letting you spam a faster weapon for a few hits.

You can actually bait an attack and step out and if he doesn't combo get one swing in before you run again.

There are also a few moments where he pauses that you can get a hit in.

Overall, getting hits in as often as possible while avoiding getting hit by a combo is all it really takes. The bigger problem is often having enough damage to finish him before the timer.

As for a catch, not much, he is just high health and there are the light phases of the fight. As the light changes it activates bonus effects. Purple increases rage gauge so you can get some refill at that time. Green starts a decent heal per tic regeneration which does heal black thunder but it isn't as much as it would heal you. Yellow is when you do a lot of extra damage, so try to always be able to damage if the light goes yellow. And red is when black thunder does massive damage. Never get hit while the light is red, except maybe for a medusa head if you have poison eater of some type.

The light isn't really going to change the fight much which is why it barely needs to be mentioned. You just need some decent hits to stagger him and then hit hard during the stagger and stay out of his attacks. The dragonbuster strategy is the most common solution because the fire tends to count towards making him stagger. And Kamas doesn't do great because the piercing and low damage per bullet don't cause staggers as often. You might use it, but you are probably going to drain your Kamas before it does enough damage.

your kamas is enough , use a shooter or attacker , u will only need to eat a shroom for defense like cateye or umbrella , then eat as many ammo shrooms u can , also make sure u have a proper build for kamas , only shoot never stop . it will be enough and work

level 167 shooter, got 20% crit decal, the 15% crit/20%durability decal, the 24% war assembly decal, the jester decal and a final map layout decal that gives bonus stamina, and then the 10% to all stats decal. idk, perhaps i will just need way more ammo shrooms, last time i lost with 80 seconds stacked, and only took halve his health, will try this next time with more ammo shrooms :duke:

I did it with massager(+7) on one hand and a thor staff uncapped +7 (mainly for more ammo), but try to learn the fight in hard first, because one hit and you are dead, ~20 encounter and you'll get how this work, only use the bullet on massager not the ray thing to hit when he does rage move / throw medusa / stomp, so you can still get to a safe distance and put some damage in (not a lot in nightmare but still it's welcome) and mainly do the thor staff attack once (so the 6 hit) at every close quarter opportunity, I used only a cateye shroom, one life shrroom and 3 red stingshroom, when you enter, eat the lifeshroom directly, and after 2~3 attacks he gonna do the stomp, it's a good window of opportunity to use the cateye and then munch 3 redshroom.

I found it was better to play on the outside of the arena, see all the statue, link them in your head or in paint and do a circle, on the outward it is more safe, on the inward I was always getting mauled because I forgot there a statue behind me, don't use lock on when you try to kite him without running, you are slower that way, don't need to run to kite him, sometimes roll if he goes too close but that's it.

Oh yeah, on nightmare there is a boost on all candle wolf weapon and armor, it's a x3 if I am not mistaken, if you have his armor, it's a good thing to equip it, and I did not test it, but can probably be useful, having a t4+4 spear or above and when the blue phase hit, I think the ragemove can do a good amount of damage, and has a good range, but can't be sure it's good never tried it but it's a CW weapon so it should be ?

Edit : Medusa head seems to be better than massager, even on a shooter

the fight specifically states it buffs candle wolf equipment, so if you don't have the decals required to pass the DPS check yet, you could try using a Shooter character with flame wand/thor wand/crossbow

but the maxed out Shooter with the kamas +8 uncapped should be enough.
