There is some real potential in the setting as a whole for a medium besides gaming

Sounds weird to say, but I think the setting and tone is ripe for either a short TV series, or a long running cheezy series of novellas or even novels. The idea of glorifying video game violence to the point of using advanced science and supernatural forces to simulate a Beat-Em-Up genre adventure game is pretty interesting.
