COD4 Single Player desn't start
Multiplayer is working fine, punkbuster it's ok, but there is no way to start the game in single player mode. I'm running Windows 7 64bit, driver updated, game updated, no error, no logs, tried to run it as admin, tried to run directly the executable etc.. no way... Just brought the game and it desnt even start... any help how to troubleshoot it?

If you haven't already try right clicking cod4 in your library, then local files and in there verify the game cache

yep, I already tried to check the cache, it's ok. It behaves like when you run some cracked game and it didnt find the DVD/CD in... same behaviour.. It's the first time i brought a game from steam and it will be probably the last if I will not find a way to make it run.. ok it's a very old game.. but it does not justify this kind of lack of missing logs/error/etc.. at all.. even Diablo III works fine on this box.. and the fact that MP works well and SP not make me think it is a STEAM problem..

well you cant blame steam for a game that they just sell. that would be like blaming walmart or target if you buy the game on disk and have the same problem. the game is not a steam game. they just sell it.

there are things to try first. have you tried to redownload. maybe it got interrupted. i have friends who got this game from steam and there copy works fine and they run win7 64 bit. i also play it fine with win7 64 bit but i own the disk.

not sure if steam auto updates a game like that either. i know they do if the developers send it to them. maybe a search. wierd that mp runs but not sp. i am not saying something did not happen on steams side either. but it might not be them per say.

i had a game that would not play. did the cache and all still nothing. i deleted everything for the game and reinstalled and it worked. also make sure you restart computer if have not.

I had the same problem, i found my solution. It might work out for you too :)
1. Exit steam completely.(Right click on system tray and click exit)
2. Go to CoD4 installation folder(Probably "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Call of Duty 4" )
Launch iw3sp.exe in there.

the reason i say what i said is there are many who have had similar issues with the game and they bought it from a retail. as well as others who got if online from other sources.
