i just bought cod4 and it says keycode invalid when i try to join a server. what do i do?

I would drop Activision support a message about it. Valve can't really help with this as the keys and everything are managed by Activision.

I got in touch with the support team and at first they said restart my pc when it happens... Then in an email they suggested firewall related fixes. I was told that the conversation I had would be sent to the developers so that's hopeful I guess.

Regardless, the issue is fixed (at least for me) by using Xfire instead of Steam.

Also, Gametracker is great for CoD4 servers if you're having issues with the server cache.
