Temporary fixes for empty server list

These are some temporary fixes for the empty server list that some players are experiencing.

Fix #1

The first fix for this is simple, all you need to do replace the servercache.dat file (where your sever list cache is stored) with one that has servers listed and you can refresh them.

1. Download the servercache.dat file at - http://puu.sh/e6tIf/5672adbec4.rar

2. Extract the files to your desktop (WinRaR, WinZip, 7Zip or other archive based programs will be fine for this.

3. Copy and paste the servercache.dat file to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty 4"

(note that the above directory is the default one for Windows 7 x64 bit, if you are running on 32bit or are on another OS, then the file directory path may be different).

4. If it asks if you want to replace / overwrite the existing file for this, select YES.

5. Right click the newly copied file and go to properties, from here, tick "read only".

6. You are done! Exit out of all the windows and start up CoD4: Multiplayer and see your list of servers!

Fix #2

The second fix will show the list of servers in an alternative location through another client. From here you can browse and select the server you want, same as with the in-game server.

1. Download + install Xfire Classic (it does not have to be classic, but this is considered the easiest version to use for this purpose): http://classic.xfire.com/download/

2.Create an Xfire account and log in (if you already have an Xfire account, just log in).

3. Wait for all your games to be detected (this should happen automatically).

4. Click on the "server" button, it should be the 3rd one across.

5. Go to "All", find and expand the Call of Duty 4 entry and 'refresh server list'. From here, it should list all of them.

6. Select a server, right click it and "join".

7. The game will launch and will auto connect to the server you selected.


As for the server list itself, I am waiting to hear back from IW about this, Activision have been made aware also.

This thread will remain up while the master server is down as a temporary fix.
