Game Tracker Questions PLS HELP
Ok so I paid for and downloaded Cod 4 but when i jumped onto the multiplayer, no servers would appear. A few Google searches later i found that activision have pulled their support for the game and that the only way to play the multiplayer is by useing third party tools, like gametracker. so i downloaded game tracker and under the "games" tab a list of all of my steam games. i click on cod 4 and move on over to the server tab and i can see nothing. then when i went on the gametracker website and click on a server on there, it tells me to download gametraker lite, which i of course already own. so, and you can see i am canfused and i have probably made a silly small mistake, but please be as detailed in your answer as possible as to avoid any more confusion

thanks to all who take the time to answer me, i greatly appreciate it.

First of all I recommend you install Cod4X. Sorry I can't link it (not allowed) but it's made by the IceOps clan so search for it on Google. This fixes the ingame server list so you can see servers again (it changes the master server to their own).

And if you still want to use Gametracker (1 word!), you don't need to download their client. Just search for a server on their site and add the ip to your favorites in-game.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to post links due to over zealous moderators and a forum troll that display abhorrent behavior towards other members. If you spend a little time going thru the older forums threads, and yes there are alot, you will find your answers. I created a website of clean COD4 servers, but am not allowed to post the link, because it is helpful and useful, therefore does not mee the criteria for a legitimate posting. Seems only bad info, or out dated info and links and zip files are allowed. I know this sounds crazy, but like Forrest Gump's mother always saids, crazy is as crazy does.

There are many threads here, and some user profiles you will find with good info. GT program is good as long as you get the GSC version. If you are able to come across my site I created with servers to connect directly to, then the GT is a viable option. You can use COD4x protocol, HLSW, XFire, Gametracker or Qtracker to connect directly off the site. If you find a good server, you can add it to the site for others as well.

If you can find my site, I would suggest book marking it, so it is easier to find in the future. Also, any servers you find and play on that you like, I STRONGLY encourage you to write it down on paper, IP and PORT, just in case. Also add it to your favorites, as that still seems to be working.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

GameTracker is an okay site to use. XFire is another method also.

XFire is good for launching. However the vast majority of servers listed are either cracked servers or filled with bots for redirecting. You are well advised to be careful when using XFire server list. The fact Steam promotes something like XFire usage over alternatives that are much safer, is disturbing, borderline un-ehtical.

XFire's list isn't biased though. Their website design is considered to be a little better...

Clueless is just clueless. Not biased, shows all cracked and bot filled servers equally. If you like playing with hackers, dealing with downloading mods that redirect you like a virus and run the risk of having your CD key stolen, please by all means use the Xfire server list. Then you can come back and tell me I was right, and anyone that says differently how clueless they are.

If you prefer a list of servers that are clean, populated and easy to get to, use the method I have described in other threads. It is a sure fire 100% way of getting onto servers, reasonably easily, and a one stop place for links to everything you need to get on a server.

So you basically have XFire, a singular choice to use that could easily land you on servers you will regret visiting, OR go to one place where you have 5 options to connect to servers that are clean. The choice is yours.
