Key already in use

just re-bought the game on steam, i used to play it back in 2007-8 best FPS ever.
every time i try to enter a match it gives me the error "cd key already in use" like when u play with cracked cd keys on original servers. Any of u know how to solve the problem?

Hello,

Try to execute the game as administrator (right click in iw3mp.exe, open as administrator) and try to join different servers, check if the problem persists.

i did.. now my profile data are corrupted for no reason :|

my game is in italian so i don't know the esact message, it says there was an error reading the profile's data, and it's doing it every time i open cod 4

ok so, i fixed the the "key already in use" problem, starting the game as admininistrator as u suggested. i gave iw3mp the permisison to always start as administrator. i have to try now if in this way my profile's data won't get corrupted

EDIT: now it works just fine, the only issue is that i cannot use steam overlay

Hi,

Punkbuster disallowed the Steam overlay, so I think you can't use it in the game. I can't confirm it because my cod4 isn't from steam but reading about the problem it seems that it is this cause.

I know this is off topic, but are the servers hacked or can you still find legit games?

there good enough to play where you don't know whos cheating and whos not!!
sometimes you think how the hell did he even know I was hiding behind that wall.

tbh there were cheaters with PB too.. i didn't found any cheater for atm.

the key thing is sometimes caused by a glitch as well. sometimes you get disconnected and the game still thinks you are in the server. usually have to wait for the server to start a new map and for it to catch up and realize you are not in the game.


for seam overlay, i have the steam version and i can hit my shift tab (i believe) and it works for me. i just have to open the game thru steam.

true. but there are many of us who have played for a long time. also many factors. some of which many dont realize. like changing your FOV. this can only be done thru using the console and a command. different pc settings can play a role. i have many times been called a cheater from new players to our server. one such map that always gets players calling me out is countdown. not so much these days but with my older pc there were settings i had to change. our server is a low gravity server meaning when you jump you go way up in the air. so on that map along with many. you can jump out of the map. and you can get into rocks and hide. with my settings i was able to get pretty close to the rocks before they would show up. so on my end no rocks were there. on there end the rocks were there.

all i can do and have done is record and post. have a few on youtube as well as on our clan website. and not just of a screen recording like shadow play. but also from a camera. it is what it is. and sad that there are cheaters who ruin it for legit players who do well.

this is also why i prefer to play servers with killcam. at least then a lot of times it can help out.

yeah pb was not the best. it was usefull but mostly ran from server admin banning cheaters and then submitting video proof to pb and they would review. if the person was found to be cheating they would then add that player to there data base and when they would update with all servers then that play was now banned from all servers running pb. but as far as it detecting cheats, not so good.
