If so then you can't activate the game on steam..

If you check next to his name, he has a mouse icon. That means he owns the game on Steam. Somehow his game glitched and doesn't recognize the game key.

@Profoundsoup, try checking the integrity of the game files, maybe it'll fix it. Otherwise, reinstall.

make sure you are also using the correct key. as said above, you can try to verify game integrity, or delete and reinstall.

i think sometimes steam does not auto input the key code for you. so it may just be that you need to get the key code and re input it. maybe you also missed a leter or number or mis did one. if there are any I make sure its a capital i and not a lower case L. or that you did not put a 1 on accident. same with o. maybe try a Zero instead. etc.
