Low FPS on powerful laptop
Hey everyone, just got a new laptop (HP Pavilion cc111tx) with the following specs:
i7-8850u
Nvidia 940mx
8GB RAM
My laptop is set at high power mode and the game plays on 940mx, not the iGPU.
At high settings, I get around 55fps, sometimes dipping down to 45 and going up to 60. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't I supposed to get fps in the hundreds? I have tried all the console commands, none helped. And no, i am not confusing the remastered with the original game, i am talking about the original one here.

Instal CoD4x - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2424191251

After that disable V-sync and type in console com_maxfps 250

Also try this - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2116569050

Hey, thanks a lot for your help! I already have cod4x installed. The other microstutter advice didn't help much. However, I now turned off V-sync and remove any frame limit, so now my fps goes up to 140. However it still fluctuates, and goes down to 40fps sometimes. Considering my specs, that shouldn't be happening, right? Any suggestions to get stable performance?

I'm not sure if that would work in your case, but for some people using 2 GPUs on same setup, I heard enabling "dual video cards" at graphics options can somewhat help for fps fluctuations.

I have the exact same issue. I have no idea why or how. A few days ago it was running at 60 FPS, 1080P no problem maxed out but today i'm getting 45 or 39 FPS as my average FPS.

SPECS:
GPU: Nvidia Gefore GTX 1650 (Max-Q)
CPU: Intel Core i7 (10th Gen)
RAM: 16GB

Ok got it! Is that is going to help with performance then?

possibly if you played on faulty servers

Also i wanted to mention that the other night when i started having these issues i installed a Windows update which caused me to bad performance in both COD 4 and World at War. I uninstalled it and it did fix the performance issues. Today i reinstalled the update which was the exact one that gave me issues. It didn't effect my performance at all now after i installed it again!

:steamthis:

yeah, that seems likely to be the reason, as sometimes windows updates can indeed break games (older ones, in particular) by leading to weird crashes or causing lower performance. when reported by many people, microsoft quickly releases hot-fix updates to eliminate such problems.
