Is this even still worth getting?

Do people still play? Are there mods where i can rank up with bot mods? Wanting to buy me a new game and used to play this. Wonder if it's dead on PC?

It’s definitely no where near what it was but there is plenty of bot lobbies and honestly I still find this game great fun. There are still a few good full servers and mod servers that are full of real people too . Just less of them. Only recently went back to it myself. I say buy it!!

Short answer, no.
You are only gonna find hardcore lobbies, and you will run into people that scream like babies "this is the way the game is meant to be played, if you can't handle hardcore you are just bad". As someone who has played the game since release, I can assure you playing hardcore diminishes any skill gap there was. You will find yourself playing against full lobbies of players who sit in bushes and corners of buildings just waiting to get an easy kill, and while those players are easy to deal with in core, in hardcore they will kill you unless they literally can't hit the side of a barn. It's really a shame because this used to be my favorite game, but it's not even a shell of its former self. Quickscoping and trick sniping is basically neutered as well, since you can get sniped cross map with a skorpion in 2 shots, theres no point to snipe. Also there are very few players, probably because of the problems I've mentioned. You can try Mw2, which still has core servers, but hackers run rampant. Best of luck to you friend.

i couldnt be bothered to download dinosaur files for Punkbuster in order to get multiplayer to connect.

If you're thinking about copping this game, buy it only on sale. For the sole reason of playing the campaign. The multiplayer cannot be in a good state after this many years. Especially when you need to manually patch punkbuster legacy files.

I bought it on sale to re-play the campaign and IMO. It was worth re-living the old CoD campaign experience. Outside of the nostalgia its a very dated shooter.

I've played it on 360 when i was much younger and at the time didn't have xbox live so i played the SP. First CoD that i got into.

No, what it does is diminish the bullet-spongey "whoever starts shooting first wins" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanic that plagues this game and so many others

Anyone who 'quickscopes' should just keep their opinion to themselves. Go play on the Xbox, I think you'll like it better there
