[Oh wait, not important.] Linux + Steamplay - Punkbuster Not Updating? (404)
I'm a newbie to Linux but I heard that Steam started implementing Wine for non-Linux games, allowing Linux players to attempt to play games like CoD that are set up on that platform. I like this new idea, and I hear Wine's good, but Punkbuster's not updating for some reason or another. I cannot play multiplayer afaik without PB updated properly, so getting a 404 on the install is kind of a boner-killer.

Anyone else getting this problem? Any suggestions?

Hurmmm, that's not good. I bought and set it up today and it's working really well now that I fixed my GPU driver issue due to an upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04. Have you played other games with Proton and sound worked? What distro are you using?

Plain old Ubuntu 18.04, recently moved to it. Updated my GPU drivers, attempted and failed to set up my mouse drivers (whatever tbh, not like I need flashy LED lights anyway, though it is unfortunate that I can't use the side-buttons to melee and crouch and lean and other things like I did on Windows), and installed Wine itself. I don't know anything about Proton (except that Steamplay uses it).

I think the issue is my headphones are my primary audio device, but sometimes audio output is defaulted to my mic (???). I can't change it in the game's menu though..

Well first off I suggest you play it via Proton and not via Wine, it will remove a lot of possible problems. The output will never default to the mic as they are two separate sections in the sound settings, one for output and one for input. Be sure you have the output tab selected when in the sound settings area. The wrong output being selected is a very possible issue.

If you would like to try this via Proton which is working flawlessly for me now on both my Ubuntu machines, simply load up the Linux steam client, click on steam in the menu then go to settings then choose Steam Play. You will then see a checkbox that says "Enable steam Play for all titles". Make sure that is checked. Then click okay and let stream restart. Once it's restarted you should be able to install the game just like normal straight from your steam client and launch it once it's installed. You will see beside the Install button a notice that says "Runs on this computer via Steam Play". This is not only good to minimize problems but it shows your gaming activity to developers that you're gaming under Linux and not windows. This is good for them to know in order to help us gain more support for our platform over time.

Good luck.

Thanks. I recently also heard that FOSS computer parts including CPUs are being innovated rapidly lately. And Linux has boomed since Steamplay was announced. Here's to hoping that we see the end of spywar - I mean, uh, "operating systems" like Windows 10.
