Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- patch to 1.8

Has anyone recently been forced by a hosting provider or server owner to move to 1.8? There seems to be limited awareness around how to patch up to 1.8 without a copy from Steam and due to a long-known exploit there are hosts forcing clients update to 1.8.

Curious about your experiences and would also love to learn more about what companies folks are using to host COD4 servers.

We rented our servers from Gameservers. Now they tell us that they are no longer supporting version 1.7. We want to keep our servers in 1.7 so we are now renting from NFO servers..as they are able to give us 1.7 servers... Lots of our members use a mac to play COD4 and there is no 1.8patch for a mac. Plus there are lots of clans that want to remain in 1.7..

What is different between 1.7 and 1.8. Why after all this time did they want to put a wrecking ball throught the players and servers with this update.

Hi all
I bought CoD 4 on steam, I had the patch 1.7 ...
now I have the 1.8 ;( I can't play anything anymore and I can't even find the server of my ISS Clan
Question how can I recover patch 1.7?
I found a server where to download it, but once installed, does not continue because I have a version " on line ".
Can you help me? I don't think it gives this kind of support... steam

1.8 apparently just fixes the RCE exploits

And leaves in the more critical vulnerabilities
