Awaiting Challenge..... and then counts to infinity and beyond

I just re-downloaded this game and tried to start it , punk buster both enabled and disabled and i cannot get into any server no matter what i do.
I just get a 'Awaiting challenge....' screen and it starts counting till 200+ and i had to close the game via task manager. Happens on all servers i try . What is going on? can someone help please?

Also i can see most server versions are 1.7 , while my client version is 1.8 --- is this why ? how do i downgrade to 1.7 to get on these servers?

Same story for me...i don’t think it dipends on version because i have steam
Version 1.8 AND my old retailed 1.7 on pc now...but it doesn’t starts either :(
And it seems that nobodyelse has this problem...didn’t found anything on web...WE HAVE TO SOLVE IT! INWANNA PLAY THIS MASTERPIECE ONLINE AGAIN!!!

ive solved it lol - i had to take bits and pieces from2 different videos on youtube

You can do it with just the video i linked ( read my info before you watch the video ) - when watching this video , the video will suggest you to download 2 files - download them - then it will ask you to extract /paste them into your game folder location -do as it says - next step is to delete your game shortcut and create a new one - do this as wel-the guy in the video will then ask you to run the game file with the new shortcut- DONT DO IT , before running the game file go back into your game folder and LAUNCH the file called 'install.cmd' it will open in the command prompt window ( black window ) just press ENTER first - you will see a quick script run.-- once you do that then go open your shortcut. it should now work.

Me too...i have sadly reinstalled cod Mw2, for a little bit of cod 4 feel...but it’s not the same...i’m thinkig to buy cod4 remastered, but my fear is that nobody playing online...

everyone has slightly different issues , like i mentioned earlier - i had to use information from 2 different videos which solved 2 different issues completely. Just spent alot of time with trial and error and finally got it going

Double click on install.cmd file first of all is very important!...because it instals files on register,...without that, game doesn’t works!

When I join team deathmatch and free for all I join immediately, however when I try to play any other gamemodes it does the awaiting challenge thing. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
