That is how games used to be played. Unless the game is purchased through Steam (which it appears it isn't) there isn't anyway to change it.

Update to 1.7 and download the c o d 4 x mod. With those I don't need to have the cd in. Go here for the c o d 4 x mod. https://c o d 4 x.me/ Remove the spaces. For some reason steam was censoring c o d 4 x without the spaces. Very odd. Read up on it. Most servers are running it and it allows for community updates, backwards compatability, and just a much smoother gameplay experience.

So if Steam is censoring it, you go ahead and bypass the censor?

Idk why steam was censoring the word cod4 with an x at the end. Look up the mod it is fine. Here is what it looks like cod4x

Quite everyone does it. What Steam(Mc. Nanny) is going to censor besides this cod4 addon stuff became really sick in meantime. They even censor usernames. For example "Support".
@Bly they don't like it. Reasons I could think about:
#1: Messing with the property of Activision Inc. they maybe deny.
#2: The provided shared libraries could contain any code. Also very malicious one. You never can really know it as user. Since it is from a doubtful source Valve says we block it without any proof.

But what is the point of blocking it? Preventing any discussion on the Steam forum about it. It doesn't spread over forums. It has far superior mechanisms to spread.

Anyway to answer the question of the topic starter: Nothing mentioned here will help you to play the single player game without disc. You have to install something which I can not mention right here without breaking Valve's ToS. But you will find it.

For multiplayer you don't need the disk in. I never needed it and many friends I know did not as well. And we did nothing special.

That said, can google and find things that will allow you to play without disk for single player.
