Difficulty spike ruins game? Help please!
I must be doing something wrong here. I just got to the corridor where you first encounter green slime enemies and the game difficulty spiked to a point where it is now unplayably hard. My build is almost pure Command, so I have almost everything invested in my army; I do very little attacking on my own. I am level 7. I have enough Command to rally about 25 Orcs. At the green slime area, my army is wiped out in about 20 seconds and I have barely enough mana to do about 10% of a HP bar to one slime with spells.

I can progress from here but having to return to base to recruit a new army every 20 seconds just to go back and manage to kill one or two enemies at a time is making things super-tedious and I can't stand to go on like this. I have tried armies built of Orcs, mass Scorpions, mass Bears, Hero units, and everything in-between, all sorts of combos. Any army I field is insta-dead against these slimes (and against the enemies/boss just beyond them). I was doing absolutely fine and loving it until this point in the game. What's gone wrong?

If you did all quests until the slimes you should have received a Blue Crystal Scepter which summons scorpion. They are good lures that ennemies attack before attacking your true minions.

You can also just run & dodge past the slimes and then use the lever to open the shortcut. After this you never have to go through that corridor again

Ok first of all if you actually read the text before, the skeleton tells you to get past them not to kill them. You can easily go past them without killing them. Then when I was about 3 or so higher levels I came back and killed them easily.

Other than that a good build is to always have 2 clerics to heal and for the magic ability I usually go with a summon one, wolves or even better scorpions. I am at era 2 and got a 16 scorpion one from the White skeleton its insane.

I did get by the slimes by running, but my problems persist with the enemies and boss right after them.

The slimes can also be of help: You can try pulling the slimes to fight for you in the next room. For the battle itself you could try some high hp units. The AOE from elementals is dangerous for lower hp units. Also, you can command your minions to fight the elementals and then try destroying the statue with the necromancer. Or you can focus everything on Grumbzniks - without her no new enemies will spawn.

OP strat : use a sorcerer dagger/sword to strike enemies and replenish Mana to use a summoning Scorpion/Wolf (scorpion is better) scepter more and more. It creates lures for my archer army that can kill everything from distance without getting touched. The lures can also stop a building from spawning enemies, ideal while you strike another one : 2 buildings stop spamming monsters at once. A ring of Flame for fire bolts makes the minions really OP. I used this strat until i reached the paladins. Then i kept on sorcerer weapon Paladins/Templars + Lures + Shield + Plague for the final of the game and in 2nd era.
