I miss VC2/3 style, one chapter for each was good.
Characters that can NOT promote to Corporal:
- Nikola (Special 2LT)
- Chiara (Special 2LT)
- Edy (Private 1st Class)
- Largo (Sergeant)
- Alicia (Sergeant)
- Sergio (Medical Officer)
- Brian (1st Lieutenant)
- Andre (Captain)
- Crymaria (Special CPT)
- Selvaria (Colonel)
- Minerva (1st Lieutenant)
- Raz (Sergeant)
- Kai (1st Sergeant)
- Riley (Science Officer)
- Louffe (Sergeant)
Every other character in the game can get to Corporal, and IIRC is required for all Biographies unlocks for those characters. You will need to promote the above list of characters as well to the listed ranks to get their biography entries as well.
The PPSSPP emulator (and the English fan translation patch for VC3) is a wonderful thing to add to your gaming 'arsenal'. Pro tip.
You know what would be sick? VC5, pushing the game to the limit, that would've been great.
Agreed, with a few graphic hacks and the translation, I can safely say that it is my favorite in the series, even with the limitations.

Hell, the game's graphics are fine as they are IMO. Just set the render resolution to 1080p or 1440p, overclock the emulator a little for a smooth 60FPS. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom.
But, yeah, having just overall 'from the ground up' remakes of the portable games in the mainline engine and re-released alongside 1 and 4 in a singular bundle would be really nice -- fix up a couple of the bugs in VC1, rebalance some stuff, maybe introduce some new content in the way of cross-game crossovers (i.e. Having the Hafen available in all games as a vehicle option (or a skin at the least), have characters from each game available in each game for the rosters, maps from every game available in each as extra Skirmishes, etc...).
It'd be a hell of a project, but also a hell of an outcome for the games (in a good way). A sort of "Celebration Bundle" or something.
