Advice for trains mission ch 7
I'm playing the game for the first time and so far so good as long as you understand what the map wants you to do. But I don't get the train mission. Even if I use the apc for cover It's torn to shreds. The first train you can reroute fairly easily but the second?
What I'm supposed to do?
Edit: After experimenting a bit I found out the most eficient way is to destroy the right turret with an Elias Launcher; use 2 grenadiers or an engineer if necessary. This gives up most of the interception fire the train is capable of.

You can destroy the three radiators of the second armored train with anti-armor mortars (or even tank shells if you're lucky). Elias MA2 should be enough to one-shot them.

I never even knew you could kill the second train. I always worked around it.

Could you elaborate? I had trouble with it as it really covers a big part of the map and doesn't give me room to breathe. Thanks

What I normally did was hide in grass behind that big building. The train shifts right and left alternatively each turn allowing you to go to the side that it's not covering (it can't shoot there).

I don't remember if there are any barricades that gives you leeway to get behind the building.

Actually did you get rid of the first train first? There is a switch at the end of the first hallway you start in, which will get of the first train completely. There is something similar for the third train.

I did got rid of the 1st train. The problem was getting past the 2nd train to the 2nd enemy camp. I quitted before the 3rd tbh

Well then simply do what Lanz suggested. Equip one of your grenadeiers with an Elias, and kill the train from a distance. Hit the radiator directly.

Also, note that Grenadiers are buggy in some versions. In mine, the projectile usually gets stuck in midair and explodes harmlessly. So if you're missing most of the time, watch that. Also be sure to equip an anti-tank mortar rather than an anti-personnel one. The equipment tab shows how much damage weapons do to various targets.

As a veteran of Valkyria Chronicles 1, I just gave one of my scouts the defend order and had him run the the last third of the mission to the objective while being shot at by everybody.

Also, to get a perfect on this mission, do you have to kill all the trains?

No, Rank is determined by number of turns.

Pretty sure Defense Boost order is the correct answer, but if you want to actually destroy it, putting a lancer on a tower and having him fire at the turrets could work too. That's how I destroyed the first train (before I realized it could just be rerouted)

I already have an A rank on the mission. But I heard you get extra rewards for killing all the tanks and aces and leaders on a mission.

The ace is all that matters for the sake of achievements. Anything else you kill only gives you extra EXP and DCT which can be easily grinded.
Smoke or use orders move a team through danger zones just run right by the danger
