IM still early into the game and was wondering as to whether you get more tank units at a later stage or you you only have access to the Hafen and the APC?

You get another tank unit to choose from, yes. Still limited to two vehicle slots most missions though.

According to SEGA’s DLC schedule 18.12.18 will be released DLC with yet another tank.

At least during the main game you get three tanks: essentially a Heavy tank that provides an extra CP, an APC, and a Light tank with customizable turret.

But, depending on the mission, you only get one or two tank slots, and usually the Hafen has fixed placement.

The Squad 7 DLC will also add the Edelweiss, though you can't upgrade it.

That thing better come fully upgraded with all 3 upgrades from VC1.

The CP alone is worth it.

Supposedly, the Edelweiss is scaled by Hafen upgrades, so it stays relevant into the late game. However, you don't get Parts to customize it like the other vehicles.
