Best way to farm for promotion (revised)
As I mentioned previously while replying to another thread, squad member promotions go from Private -> Private 1st Class (after spending 20 CP on the unit) -> Corporal (after spending 40 CP on the unit). Corporal rank is needed primary for you to be able to assign them as a squad leader, and also there is an achievement / medal for making every squad member corporal.

Previously I suggested using skirmish 1 to farm rank promotions and keep selecting a unit and ending his turn right after to get 1 CP use each time, and you'd have to select a newbie 40 times from scratch to get him/her to Corporal.

The new suggestion is to do the same but rerun an early story mission map, because as I've just tested, each time you use a unit in story mode it counts as them earning 2 CP, so you only need to select any newbie Private unit in any story mission 20 times to raise him to Corporal, effectively cutting your farm time in half.

i think i read somewhere that skirmish contributes 1 point, squad stories give 1.5 points, and story missions give 2 points per CP used

Well also to unlock thier squad story which gives or changes thier perks to better stuff. Even though you only need one to be corp among friends.

The earliest chapter you can farm and clear relatively easily would be chapter 4. Both 4-1 and 4-2 are viable as farm maps. Chap 4 is the earliest time when you're not missing any leader units and also have enough spaces to deploy your roster, although to clear them within a turn would mean you'd have to waste a couple CPs on the last turn for an APC-scout or trooper push. If you don't want to waste your last turn doing that, then you'd have to actually play out the first two turns with your newbie units and push far enough to claim the enemy base camp on your last turn with infantry alone.

Yeah, Rhomeo has a guide in the guides section detailing all the squad stories and how to unlock. The only reason to get everyone corporal would be for the medal / achievement or if you simply want to read everyone's full biography in the personnel pages.

If all you care about is geting people to Corporal, you should wait until the postgame. Those missions promote your characters much faster than the others.

The best way to level a unit up to corporal IMO, would be to play Chapter 1 "Taking Fort Krest" or whatever it's called. At the start you'll have 8 or 9 CP, depending on whether you still have Raz. Deploying all leaders (Minerva should be your main scout for this to work) and whatever unit you want to level up to corporal, the process is as follows:

1. Scout/Minerva should be at the left most position to reach the camp you're supposed to take. Select them, and run them halfway to the camp. You should be at the point where the fountain adopts a ^ shape. End the turn there, or if you have a scout with a double AP spike, move them closer to the camp and kill the enemy unit sitting at it. DO NOT CAPTURE THE CAMP YET.

2. Select the unit you wish to level to corporal. End their turn without doing anything. Do this, until you have only 1 CP left.

3. Using the last CP, select the scout that's going to capture the enemy camp. Then, capture the camp. A little cutscene will play that can be easily skipped with the ESC key. After you've done so, all your units will be reset and you'll have 8 or 9 more CP to play with, without turn 1 being over.

4. At this point, you've spent 6 or 7 CP on your unit, depending on whether or not you have Raz. With the CP that comes from capturing the camp, use all of the points on the unit you're leveling to Corporal. That will boost you up to 14 or 15 CP spent, depending on whether or not you have Raz. After this, you end the phase, and you'll move on to turn 2.

5. Turn 2 starts, select a scout, and run them as far as you can to the objective. Obviously, if you get a double AP spike, do NOT complete the objective, as you'll end the operation and have to go to another one.

6. Spend 5 or 6 CP on the unit you're leveling to Corporal. You'll have spent 20 CP on them by now, but feel free to keep using CP on the unit. DO NOT USE ALL THE CP ON THE UNIT FOR TURN 2. You still need 1 for the scout to complete the objective.

Doing the math, you'll have spent 6 CP on the first turn before the camp has been captured, then 14 total after you've captured the camp and spent all CP. Turn two starts, you'll spend 6 more CP to level unit to corporal, and then you'll be good. If you have Raz, you'll have spent 7 before cap, 16 after turn 1, and only need 4 more to spend.

To recap:
-Run scout halfway to enemy camp.
-Spend all but 1 CP on turn 1 on unit you want to level to corporal
-Capture camp
-Spend all CP on unit you want to be corporal
-Turn 2 starts
-Run scout halfway to objective
-Spend all but 1 CP on unit you want to be corporal
-Run scout to objective

This is by far the best strategy I've seen for grinding the whole squad to corporal on the internet, good job dude.
