Does the game play well on PC?
Heya peoples, long time fan of the VC franchise but always on console. I remember people criticizing the PC release of VC1 becasue the controls felt a little clunky, and I definitely found this when I repurchased VC1 for PC. Just wondering if those issues have been smoothed out for the PC release of VC4 or if I'de be better off getting it for PS4 instead.

The port is good with few minor bugs, with the patch 1 released and patch 2 on beta branch ( haven't test it though) it's getting better. Still recommend play it on PS4 because orginal platform is mostly the best especially Japanese games.

It's a solid release, Sega did well.
I thought VC 1 was pretty impressive minus a few things (Broken physics/interception fire at greater than 60fps, still had some mouse acceleration issues)
I can safely say that none of those shortcomings are here in VC4, and for all intents and purposes this is a 'Multiplatform game'; I wouldn't even bring the word 'port' into the equation.

I'm in the opt-in Beta 2 and they've already patched in the walk toggle and (seemingly, so far) fixed one of the major bugs that caused dialogues to halt.

I'd say any platform is fine, my personal preference is PC to play at 144fps and to mouse aim more comfortably. Those in-battle load times are pretty sweet here also.

Plays so nicely on PC, playing it right now. A few bugs I've noticed they patched out, that weird "Im using the shocktrooper FT but it hasn't actually fired and does no damage" bug, and the weird jittery tank bug where it'll spin your tank 180 degrees if you move your mouse and tank at the same time. On top of that, the visuals are great, vibrant, and colorful compared to VC1, and I've only noticed FPS issues (drops to 49 from 60 flat) on city maps. Which honestly was like 2 maps.

For my part it does play well especially since the the controls are not as clunky as in the first pc port. plus they took care to explain the mechanics skills etc. way better so it not as much try and error for beginners than in the first one. Only odd think by now is that since the last patch the game always crashes with error message when i end it and want to go back to desktop wich was not the case before the patch but otherwise it runs very smooth and looks beautyful.

I just got the game yesterday and it plays smooth as silk (i7 7700K/GTX1070) and the mouse/keyboard controls are solid - no complaints and only one rebind (moved 'end action' from 'x' to 't' to avoid potential fat fingering)

Ugh... definitely recommend that rebind, I've ended too many times by accident before I decided to change it.

It would it also be a bit better if we could swap the space and enter keys, sadly those two aren't rebindable. I liked having space on the first game to tap to change dialogue, I know you can use enter or mouse button, but I did like space.

Apart from that, no problems from me.

With patch 2 the game is definitely in good shape. Only major thing left to complain about now for most is the control preferences (that back button cancling the turn is the big one) and then this game has the usual VC quirks that you find on any platform. (try to shoot over fence, etc) I do still think there were some other bad control differences between this and VC1 and VC3 but it was a long time ago when I played those games so I'm not sure on the direct comparisons. But of course on PC you can configure any controller however you want.
Considering the first one was pretty solid this one is pretty good too. Its got 4K support and I can usually run it 55 - 60fps. Depends what you do with the resolution scale and pixel resolution etc. If you have a beasty rig I'd say you could run it full 4K with 120% scaling for sharper image

The only issue I seem to have is sometimes during audio diolog with the characters the chat box will seem to lock up and characters will just stop talking you have to skip the sceen with escape and rewatch it and hope it doesn't do it again.

Have you tried the beta patch? one of the things that fixes is that problem.
Game runs like melted butter for me. Have't really run into any of the issues that people mention. And any gripes I might have potentially had, the patch knocked out.

Plays flawlessly for me. Bugs are present but not very grave. I saw the console version being played on Twitch and boy, if you got the PC version of VC4 and a somewhat decent resolution, you are on the winning side by a long shot. Ps4 looks like plastic dolls, PC looks like living anime series.

It's a really good port. Played through the entire thing and can only tell you there was a few funny ragdoll deaths but nothing gameplay related.
