VC4 is a massive improvement on VC
After finishing VC4 completely, with few expert skirmishes remaining. I decided to go back out of nostalgia to replay VC. This made me realize how much of a good job they did on VC4.

In VC, going through menus and dialogue (unskippable parts) is very annoying, while VC4 allowed me to skip almost everything, even allowing you to switch party members during breifing.

Speaking of party members, the addition of Squad Stories was really awesome. This encouraged me to use all party members and switch them out. Not to mention that the non-main characters are all very interesting and most of them have their unique personal potentials that defines their personality. In VC, there was no such thing, and a lot of them have similar personal potentials and some of them didn't even have a hidden potential. It was easy to identify the useless ones.

During the replay, I tried to use all different classes, and level them equally. It was impossible. Shocktroopers/lancers have very low AP. You can't move them at all. Scouts are the only front liners that you can use, and engineers (for their 3 grenades). VC4 fixed most of this. Now, you might say that scouts are still OP, but at least they weren't the only option. While they increased the mobility of troopers/lancers, you can also use APC and command mode to even move them around.

The turn counter for an A rank is more reasonable now. I can kill as many leaders/tanks and the ace as I can, and I still get A ranks as long as I'm on top of things. In VC....LOL. You have to scout rush or wait for a new game+. You can't take your time.

I just want to say Thank You for the team for this huge step forward, and will get VC5 if they plan to make it.

VC4 was a great improvement, yeah. But I still believe Valkyria Chronicles reached its apex in terms of gameplay with Valkyria Chronicles 3 for the PSP... It had pretty much all that VC4 currently has right now, plus that game had individual stories for each squadmate, individual body types, unique special abilities for the main characters, and you could customize their classes and the perks that came with them. Unfortunately Valkyria Chronicles 4 tossed all of that out the window in favor of a more streamlined experience, which was a bit disappointing.

Not it wasn't. And yes, I agree with the OP. The only complaints I have about VC4 is a bit of the story and the cast.

Im playing the first game again as well to get all achievements there and i still had an old save so I started from new game+ immediately, but I really see every little bit has improved in VC4. From the weapons to the stories and the cast, everything is just better.

And i might watch a lets play to VC2 and VC3 just to see what they are all about.

You will have to excuse me as I didn't play the PSP games. I tried VC2 on an emulator, and immediately saw how the memory limitations held it down ( map divided into sections/ low depoloyment slots).
Individual body types, and unique squad stories does sound like something I would love to have seen in VC4.

Im glad that there is a easy mode option, it may sound crass but when encountering a difficult mission I would go through it first on easy to figure out what to do and then do it in normal, the fact that tanks are contrallable and useful are good aswell, i remember using the edelwiess as a bullet magnet and nothing else while the Hafen is pretty useful (and doesnt get stuck on anything)

If it had only been a couple years I'd agree. However it's been over 10 years waiting for a proper sequel for those who bought the original PS3 release, and a huge number of the original flaws and quirks still exist. Scout rushing is still the best strategy far to often. I'm enjoying the game still but I was really expecting a lot more after all this time.
