VC3 is a side story occuring at the same time as 1 and 4.
If you really, really want to go through VC2, I would highly recommend watching a Youtube walkthrough instead of buying it.
VC 3 is done at about the same time as VC 1, but with a group of Federation misfits and a darker tone. Not as bad as VC 2, but not really in the same style/spirit as VC 1. Again, watch a youtube walkthrough, though the game is worth its current price if you want to play it.
The Nameless squad in VC3 is from Gallia, not the Federation. I agree about VC2, but I think the third is worth playing, it has a more mature storyline.
VC2 is canon, why shouldn't it.
That's your thought, still VC2 is canon. The quality of the game is another matter.
