For instance, for the engineer Eileen, she has a squad story with her brother and a lancer. If you get any one of them up to Corporal rank, you'll unlock their squad story.
Edit: Engineer Eileen, not Engineer Rita.
To see what rank your units are, which is different from their class level, go into your command room and view your squad roster. I believe next to their name at the top will be their associated rank once you've selected a unit.
Edit: Go to Headquarters, then head to the Command Room. Once there, select "Squad Setup". That lets you view the members currently in your squad, and any troops you have in reserve you're not using. Once there, look directly right from their name, and it'll show their rank.
For instance, I'm looking at my Scout, Godwin. Directly right of his name is his rank, Corporal. (Also, Godwin has a squad story.)
So you mean, If you want to rank 'john' up to corprial, just replay skirmach maps and keep using the same 'john' every turn for 20 turns (which means you just spent 20 command points on him)?
Well, yes and no. You need 40 points spend on any one trooper to get him to corporal rank, at which poitn suqad stories can unlock.
CP spend in SKirmishes count as 1, but CP spent in story missions count as 2 CP, so oyu only have to spend 20 on a soldier there. Those points spend don't have to be in the same mission, or even the same type (story/skirmish). So if you want to level osmeone, simply take them into oyur rooster and use them in your mission for the roles you need.
And just like skirmishes, story missions can be replayed any time if you want to force a soldier to get to highest rank. Though I recommend to not force it to much, simply rotate anyone you got a squad story for already that you don't like out of the unit, and bring in new peopel untill you got them all unlocked.
Also remeber that even after completing the main story, there are extra side chapters you can unlock, the hard skirmishes that get unlcoked then (which is an entirely new set of skirmishes), DLC's to play etc. So there is no need to level them all upbefore you finish the main story.
On a side note:The soldiers can have 3 ranks. I don't play the game in english, but guessing yb their german rnak names, and the structure, it should be soldiers ->corporal-> sargeant. But you can easily check what rank is highest with the peopel you already got squad stories for (at least 1 of them need sto have the highest rank).
Oh, and keep in mind, there are a few soldiers that require endgame unlock characters that you can't get before that for their suqad stories, so if you see someoen hit highest rnak but nto give a squad story, don#t worry and rotate them out as usual (or keep them if you like them :) )
