Chapter 15 - What the hell?
Jezus. Talk about a difficulty spike. The first battle is ridiculously easy. It's win in one turn on your first try, easy... But that second battle, just what in god's name?

Any advice? This is the first time in this game I hit a wall. It's not that I don't know mechanically how you're supposed to win it (shoot the shiny stick, then move in point blank), it's that in practice it's just not working out for me. This game isn't so much a strategy game as it is a puzzle game, and I just haven't figured out the trick to this one. Do you guys go East, rush a sniper up on that ledge and make your way around or do you charge through all of the tanks and anti tank nonsense on the West?

I really enjoy these games, but the titular characters, the valkyria, are really bloody annoying in both 1 and 4. At least Selvaria you could head shot with the tank... lol

Bumping this in the search for the same answer. I figured out shooting the staff before it even told me (funny sequence break there with them discussing how to shoot the staff one turn after I've already destroyed it and seen it come back to life), but then what? Shooting her with sniper shots just straight up doesn't seem to damage her. I did a very small amount of damage with the shocktrooper's primary fire, can't figure out why only one or two bullets actually damaged her. The most effective attack is, funny enough, the flamethrower. So I have to spend 4 attacks knocking the staff out each turn before I can approach with the flamethrower and do maybe 1/8 of her HP with each attack. My turn's over before I can finish her off so I just have to force-evacuate the shocktrooper so they don't die instantly. Then she restores some HP. Then she tends to obliterate Kai.

What the hell indeed. I mean, I think I could maybe work out a really damn tedious strat, but there's just got to be something I'm missing here, I think.

Is chapter 15 the one with Crymaria? I'll give you a good tactic in one second.

I figured out what my problem was.

She only takes headshot damage from most weapons. Now, her head sways up and down once you've destroyed her staff. So you think "Oh ok aim for the head duh".

Wrong. You have to aim for the invisible spot where the head WILL be, after she enters the recoil animation from getting hit. Headshot or no, damage or no, the first shot will still cause the recoil animation, so the rest of your clip will hit.

For one-hit weapons like snipers IDK if they can even damage her like this. Claude does say "Get close" to her, implying that maybe they're not supposed to work. But basically near as I can tell, the fight is kinda broken and requires you to figure out dumb animation mechanics to beat it.

Now that's what I call strategy.

I recommend that you should use sniper to aim her staff. Then use SP command for Raz take along 2 more shocktropper to make combine att. Use order increase ATT if need. Finally, you must aim her head to deal a lot dame

I just rushed two troopers with Minerva commanding them over to her one standing either side, and burned her to death with a flamethrower, took a single turn, sniper can break her crystal in two shots at that point in the game so thats easy enough to do, do keep in mind you can set your units up ready to rush and save some AP for a single long turn.

She shouldnt retaliate at all if you exit your turn quick enough, and wont fire at you each time you alternate as she'll have her back to you.

Cleanse, purge, kill.

I believe A rank was 6 turns at least, so you've got enough time to clear the map and kill her off without too much trouble, I'd advise going up the right hand side of the map as its easier, APC can get a third of the way, either rapid deploy or use a scout to bring your troopers around faster in general, or use the northern base.

As another little side note, Crymaria tends to walk to the centre and one side of the map, so while she is, for example south, N,W,E are all safe to traverse, worth leaving a unit in the base to bait her into going south, engineer with the tank will do.

So the best strategy I found, and an easy A to which you can win in 2 turns. It requires 2 troopers, one sniper, one lancer, one scout and the APC. The APC must have all 5 or more slots available.

So it is pretty simple and relies on abusing Crymaria AI, you start off moving one trooper and your sniper to the right to the high ground. This is best done with a commander unit, to Raz and Kai work well here. Move Raz forward with Kai and kill the scout and the trooper. Once they're dealt with move Kai to kill the grenadier on the high ground and leave them there. Make sure Kai is NOT in line of sight of Crymaria, keep her near the base of the cliff after killing the Grenadier.

As for the 2nd squad you are going to want to move your Hafen first taking out the two anti tank guns on the waters edge. I recommend high accuracy for this because you do not want to miss at all. Once your two turns are spent there use your APC to pick up one scout, one trooper and the lancer, make sure you also pick up EVERY other unit you spawned as this is VERY important. This means picking up Riley becasue you want that command point, as well as your own appointed commander.

This will take two command points, moving the APC behind the two tanks, kill the stormtrooper here as he is standing up and is free kills with the APC. Eject the lancer and destroy the two tanks then just leave them there or put them back in the apc. Move your trooper into the objective cleaning it out of all enemies and capture it. Once captured move as far north to the little alcove in the wall, either one will work, however, I find the one to the north side of the mountain the best. This is about Northeast of the flag point, you can see it pretty easily. Put your trooper in your new home and leave him there.

Once that is done move the scout onto the objective, it can honestly be anything but I find the scout nice just because it is easier that way.

So the pieces are set for a turn 2 victory. You should have at this point both tanks dead and the point captured with no one back at main base. On top of that the grenadier, scout and trooper on the right should be dead and Kai should be close to the high ground to prepare for two shots on the scepter. The trooper should be in his new home and the scout is prepared to bait Crymaria to get absolutely devestated.

On the opponents turn they can do whatever they want, however one thing will almost always happen. Crymaria will move towards your scout to kill them getting extremely close to the wall in the process, this will be west towards your new flag. Wait out there turn, they may kill the apc they may not, it doesn't matter at that point.

Now for turn 2, pull Kai out of hiding and move her to the high ground and shoot the scepter two times, this should make Crymaria in her weakened state. Then its as simple as buffing up your Shocktrooper with two very important buffs. Extra dmg to personel and Concentrated Fire. Concentrated Fire will turn your aim into a literal dot, because of this dot you can now walk up to the wall she walked up too and shoot over it. Aim at her head and one tap her. If it doesn't one tap her then activate them again.

Some tips that help, bringing a 2nd trooper may help if she randomly kills them during movement attacks. Also, there is a point in the wall, sort of in the center that you can shoot over and it is hard for her attacks to hit you. You can also shoot her a third time with Kai to turn her around so she doesn't get to attack while you move your trooper into position.

I hope this helps for getting that "A" and that you understood it pretty well.

Good luck!

I was thinking there may be a way to do it faster, in terms of command points used however I do believe the fastest you can beat her is in 2 turns. Simply becasue getting anything close to her when she is in the center is hard. However, you may be able to use the "command" skill with a commander and bug a unit over the walls, I've done this before, however it only works, from my understanding, on the black iconed walls that are in skirmishes that are meant to stop you from rushing the objective. You may also be able to refresh AP with it and get to her but idk. I didn't try that.

you can 1 turn this. what I did was: shoot the staff with kai, then give order on raz to raise defense / attack / penetration. load him into the apc, take the apc and move to the right side path. unload raz and make him keep running counterclockwise on the map three times, then direct command on raz to make his 4th turn start with full AP again and head straight to crymaria from behind. then unload point blank on her from behind. if you do it right you'll still have enough cp to snipe kill the ace with kai too - with some save / load, since he's got high dodge.

That seems easy enough tbh.

What kind of save/load are we talking about?

Probably means save right before the action where you'd attack the Ace, then if the Ace decides to dodge, reload the save. If he doesn't, tada you get some loot.

A few people have already said very similer strats to the one i used to get this in 2 turns. Im just here to say, CP Has been a real pain in my ass. that one girl and one shot my tanks from a mile away.

The mission where the enemy gets to go first, when you are assaulting the capital. Worst designed mission I have ever seen in a video game. I lost both my tanks and two people perma died before I was even able to take my first action. Safe to say I loaded until I got the least ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ result, which was just my APC being destroyed and the Hafen being a little wounded, plus some dmg on a few guys.

Manslayer-

Oh that one, here's the trick - Chiara really, really likes to go after Riley and stun her on her first move. So if you position Riley (just to be safe, close to Hafen but inside the camp still so she starts crouching behind a sandbag) closer to the Hafen instead of close to the other tank that's facing south, therer's a very good chance Chiara will waste her next turn's shooting at the front of the Hafen instead of going to the Glory or Cactus and destroy it in one shot

The imperial capital mission is not that hard if you put a grenadier in the base camp to draw fire. If you put a grenadier in the front row in the middle of the base camp, chiara and the untimate tank will most likely to waste there amunition on the grenadier. I placed a grenadier and an engineer in the middle of the camp and observed many times. Chiara will first aim for the engineer and then stun the grenadier. The ultimate tank will also aim the grenadier instead of Hafen.

I have three scouts, 1 engineer, 1 grenadier and kai in the base camp. Riley and another scout on the left side of the map. Put the engineer and the grenadier in the middle of the base camp to draw fire. If our luck is not very bad.

At the beginning of your turn, only the grenadier will be killed. Then just rush forward. No need for any orders. Chiara could be disabled when the arch fell apart. One scout heads south (if she went south instead of west or east, watch out for her interception fire when your scout rush south) ,kill the scout destroy the sand bags using the grenade launcher. Kill the shock troop by gun fire. occupy the base and head toward a side alley to kill the shock trooper there.

For the west base, using Riley taking the left route, kill the scout and destroy the sandbags. The scout kill the remaining trooper and occupy the camp. Hide them in the alley near the sewer. Use the apc pick up a scout and rush for the east camp. Use the apc to kill the trooper and the scout to take out the anti-tank gun, occupy it and order the scout to rush north thourgh the alley(be careful of the grenadier interception fire and the land mine!). Order Kai to take out the grenadier at the northen platform. Hafen also rush north to kill the shock trooper in the way. Make sure hafen won't be amied by ultimate tank at the radiator.

For the next turn, Chiara will re-appear at the north camp if she is disabled, otherwise as long as you denoted the southern arch, she won't be able to take back the southern base. Use Hafen to clear the nothern camp and block Chiara's interception fire for your scout. Order the scout which rushed north from the western alley to take the camp. For the northeastern camp, use the scout to locate the two grenadier, and hide him or her in a safe place. Order Riley to take out the grenadier and clear the the carrison. Use the scout to occupy the camp. 2-turn victory.

She literally never did that. All she did was run in, destroy my apc do some dmg to something else run out. If she got the kill on a member she would run over them and eliminate them from my playthrough. Also I did positon Riley behind sandbags, I try to do that with most my support style classes, mainly becasue I never use her. Then it was a matter of RNG tank shots to not kill my random troops. It's a pretty poorly designed mission regardless.

Also I didn't even know they had a stun mechanic ever, they have never used it once.
