Is the DLC worth it?
Afternoon fellow commanders, I adored VC1 and have been waiting a while for a solid sale on VC4 and wanted the DLC bundled with it as well but sadly there's no discount there. Do you guys believe the DLC price tag is justified in full or should I simply get the base game for the time being?

Good that you asked this, I saw base game is at a good price now and also want to know if any of the DLC is must have. If it is I'll likely just wait till both are on sale together.

Look forward to hearing some answers on this one.

I bought the original game and selling DLC's is an ugly side of cash grabbing for small additional content. VC 4 is a game we will be adding for our son, but it would be a benefit to know which DLC is even worth adding to the base game and which can wait.
Personally and it is only my opinion. I cannot stand companies that do this. As Easy, stated we will wait until they are both on sale, but it is still to know an opinion on what you should add, if any.

If you buy one of the DLC, you'll get another two (United Front and Advance Ops) for free. So, with one you can't go wrong.

Which one? Well, Expert Skirmishes contain the six most difficult missions in the game (don't take this way too literal though), so it's pretty much must-have if you want to clear every challenge in the game.

The Two Valkyria would be another good choice if you want to unlock playable Selvaria and Crymaria plus the two annoying girls. But it's only two missions.

I finally broke down and bought everything with the new sale, DLC and all. I F-ing HATE the new trend of piece-mealing games out with DLC and turning $60 purchases into 80-100 buck ones.

However, this sale finally drove the price down low enough that even with all the DLC, it was still cheaper than the original game. So functionally, I got the "whole" game, and still at a discount. Which was enough to trigger my monkey brain to buy it. Don't know if that "helps" you per se, but it's how it worked out in my head, and I'm now enjoying the game. Been waiting since I adored the first one.

( with that being said, so far I'm not finding the new characters anywhere near as likable as the OG squad 7 crew. :/ )

for both VC1 and VC4, i find that lots of the side characters are more likeable. I'm really happy that they got side mission too in VC4 though it's just one for every 3 side characters.

too bad the free DLC only gives us Eddy instead of her whole Eddy's detachment.

i just bought the "captainless squad", it's really nice DLC if you love the side characters, 4 of my favorites are there: simon, azusa, rita, neige, along with 4 others (connor, zaiga, hanna, rosetta). I haven't clear the 2nd chapter so i'm not sure if more side characters are involved.

swimsuit DLC is nice for obvious reason. The 2nd stage is quite fun if you attempt to unlock Minerva's swimsuit.

still in chapter 14 so i can't try the "The Two Valkyria" DLCs but i'm sure it will be good.

I advise to buy at least one of the dlc's early to get the two free DLC's which award you a few really cool and comparatively strong characters and some weapons that are useful early on. You can do these missions as early as Chapter 2, which I would recommend because I felt the missions were fairly easy to medium and then you can make use of the weapons for a few games before they get outclassed. It makes little sense to experience these missions only after you are already all powered up and experienced, so I'd say buy a dlc and then complete these two free dlc's very early on during the campaign.

I'd recommend either go with the Beach dlc or the "A Captainless Squad" dlc because they each unlock at chapter 10, while the other paid dlc's only unlock after chapter 18. This way you have more time to check out the game and decide if you really wanna play it through including all the dlc's. If you wanna get the most bang for your buch take the Captainless Squad dlc, it's a bit cheaper than the beach dlc and if you get invested in the game you can always buy all the other stuff later.

I do not like this trend as well. But, with VC4 case is a different. This DLC are not a content cut from the main game. It is more like a spin-off.
