It's all explained in the game. All you have to do is take 5 minutes and click on the tabs to see what they do and what they need to make things.
I am not going to bother with those things right now, but just concentrate on raising animals and planting veg and fruit trees.
So, why not just do on the farm the things you want to do, and can afford to do. Earning money gets easier the higher you level up. Just enjoy the game with what's available for the thalers and gold bars you have.

this purports to give unlimited gold and thalers without any chance of being banned. Has anyone tried it?
Story line says build barrels so I made a carpenter and planted Oak trees. On turning into oak logs I found the Sawmill (gold) needed to get them into planks... doh! Still, I made a profit on the logs... The farm was small so to free space I took Carpenter Card back into hand until I can get space for it, the Sawmill and trees. I plan on a long game! Maybe ignore some story lines for a few months as you cannot do all in limited space.
I find massed Chickens produce better chickens (breeding), eggs, and a lot of experience points (every hour or two). Eggs make quick money or go into quick pancakes in the kitchen. Optimal coup size is for 10 chickens + food + water. Later on, one coup should have a Manger (where you move the baby chicks), and one or more coups the Barn for breeding. Once breeding, if you run out of space, just sell the oldest hen (lowest level) for a profit and you'll have a space for the new super-chicken. [There is also a "resting place for small animals" but it is gold so I don't have it.]
Enjoy!
You need the sawmill to use the carpentry, I made that mistake of getting the one before the other and could not use it, except when I won some planks.
Something I suspect many people haven't noticed: You can buy the sawmill at two different places in the UI. One is the usual building menu, where it always costs 40 gold bars. The alternative is the card-pieces section. If you have collected some of the 15 pieces necessary to get it for free, you can choose to "complete" the building there and only pay a portion of the gold price. For example, right now I have 4 out of 15 card pieces collected and have the option to "complete" the sawmill for 30 gold bars instead of 40. So, this is nice to know.
