HMD Tracking Error using VRidge
Preface: I'm a former Vive owner with a fair bit of experience inside SteamVR generally- I resold my Vive right before the price drop and have been waiting on a V2 model patiently.

Recently, I was made aware of a price drop on the Google Daydream View headset and decided to jump on it since I already own compatible hardware. After poking around and discovering VRidge, I've been using it fairly successfully to recreate some of the SteamVR experience on a budget- it effectively convinces Steam to view a mobile device as a HMD by establishing a server/client connection between a PC and an Android app in Daydream mode.

Now, I'll be the first to admit it's not perfect in that it can only provide rotational tracking without additional sensors- but for a lot fo seated games, including Psychonauts: RoR it seems to be plenty enough for a playthrough.

Enter my problem: even though the game is *technically* playable using an Xbox controller more or less as intended, there's a floating message indicating "HMD Tracking Error" that follows into every screen at a fixed distance right in the center of vision.

I realize this isn't an officialy supported headset, but I'm hopeful it's possible to run all the same with some insight from a Dev or fellow clever player. On the off chance I manage to get this working myself, I'm also hopeful it'll shed some light on a low budget way for rabid fans to experience Psychonauts 1.5.

I figure it's a long shot that there's a debug mode or some console command to disable it, and I'm also considering looking for the texture itself to make transparent. Any insight or better ideas are more than welcome!

Hey, same boat here. I was hoping to playthrough using my Daydream. Can actually play the game fine with the pop up, it's just annoying.

So, I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of the pop up using Vridge. But I have been able to get rid of it using Trinus. With Trinus, after you set your capture mode to SteamVR you can go to the "SteamVR" tab and increase "Forward" to any number greater than zero. This should remove the message. I have mine set to 1.

Additionally, later in the game there is an area in which you would normally be unable to move forward without positional tracking. PSVR, Occulus, and Vive all have Six Degrees of Freedom, whereas a phone generally only has three. So, when you're playing it on the correct hardware and you lean, the camera will go with you, allowing you to peak behind corners or get close up read text (or really examine a texture, or look at something small, or whatever you would do irl).

In this case there is a periscope that you have to lean into in order to see what is happening. Then you have to use tk on a character that you can see through the periscope.

You can use the forward controls in Trinus in order to simulate moving your head forward. You can do this by alt-tabbing over to trinus and moving the slider while the game is running. You'll probably have to take off your headset and watch what is happening on the computer screen. After you have successfully moved on from this area, you can set your forward setting back to normal and continuing playing as you were before.

There are ways to add positional tracking to either Trinus or Vridge, but that's not something I have experience with.

Same problem with iVRy, which is installable directly from steam and makes it very easy to get started with a very budget VR setup. The game seems to work perfectly (I played through the whole intro chapter), except that there constantly is this annoying brown box right in front of ones face saying "hmd tracking error", sigh...

Supporting these options give a very low cost way for users to play this game: one only needs a cardboard-like VR phone holder + gamepad.

Edit: I missed FragmentalStew's comment on there being one specific section where one needs to lean forward. I suppose that will break with iVRy as well. Fair enough, seems a bit silly not to provide a workaround for 3-dof headsets for that one point.

Hey, bumping this two years later, found a fix;

I had the same problem, can run the game fine but the "HMD Tracking Error" pop-up was always there;

There was a VRidge update that allows you to simulate movement, index controllers and such with your mouse and keyboard, simply moving forward once (pressing W by default once enabled) fixed it for me.

It could also have something to do with the experimental ARcore support that is also toggleable in VRidge, I'm using a Galaxy S8 with a Gear VR and the phone is apparently ARcore compatible so I suppose if you have a more recent model you should have that. Hope this helps anyone!
